Why You Should NEVER ALLOW a Pressure Washer to be used on your roofing
Shingled roofs are pretty obvious. Cleaning them with a pressure washer will blow the granules off, in fact quite a large % of them!
Also, the most common roof tiles in Florida are made from concrete and have a sandy/granular finish on the exposed side of the tile, or a smooth finish and glazing.
Using a pressure washer may strip the surface of the tile and shorten it’s life expectancy.
The roofing manufacturers specify a chemical, self cleaning method, with instant results.
That's how I clean roofs.
It's gentle, the cleaning agents are bio-degradable { Green }
It lasts more than twice as long as a power washing job does.
Unlike the pressure washing method, the manufacturer method kills off all living algae spores, including the roots.
Power washing with a gun or a { circular } "spinner" "Rotary" surface cleaning machine, does not kill off the living algae.
It just blows it up under the tiles and shingles and may even blow it into the underlayment of your roof!
Also, that pressure will blow algae spores all over everything within 10' of your roofs edge-spreading the algae infestation to your house trim, walls, sidewalk, driveway and pool / lanai areas!
Pressure washers work with thousands of pounds of pressure. Soft Washing, as I do, uses a 60 psi pump, which is strictly for delivering the manufacturer specified cleaning agents, to the roofs surface.
Once applied, it often comes 100% clean and has no living algae spores left to continue growing.

There is a lot of really good advice you just posted Chuck.
Thank You Chris!
It's always gratifying to have real professionals, like Marcus and Apple Roof Cleaning - Chris Tucker himself, compliment me! Chris has cleaned roofs in this manner for many years and started the RCIA to teach others how to properly clean roofs. Anyone who becomes a member here, has no excuse for not knowing just how it's done and as we all know, there are lots of "Untrained" guys out there, spraying who knows what on roofs, testing out new gimmick products, as well as making damaging mixtures up to spray, testing their guesswork on peoples' expensive roofs!
I had cleaned roofs with no pressure for years before coming to RCIA, but I have learned MUCH since joining RCIA. I was among the 1st years members, I believe.
Some roof cleaning forums have come up, following the lead of RCIA and from what I have read on them { I have no need to join them } the members on these new roof cleaning forums are copying info from RCIA and rewording it a little.
RCIA is and was the real deal!!!
