Acid wash metal roof for painting

No, I have a customer that is going to be painting an old metal roof, and it needs an acid wash before the painting. I will be cleaning the roof, and then washing it with Oxalic acid. Just wondering if anyone has done this, and if they used a diff. acid.

Any acid, including Oxalic acid will create rust almost immediately!
I have been a painting contractor since 1978.
If you use acid on it and paint it quickly, the rust won't show through for a few months.
Better paint it orange.

Update on the roof. It was a zinc roof. The guy who owns the house owns a zinc company that builds everything zinc. The roof panels in question were 135 years old, and need to be painted. The owner said they acid wash all the zinc panels they make before painting them.
