It will not give immediate results, but it MIGHT kill the algae enough for the rain to rinse it away. This is quite common for someone to either bullChit, or lie about what they use to clean roofs with. I say save the vinegar for a salad.
Chris took the words right out of my mouth! Sounds like BS to me! Ya, maybe with enough coats, the mild acid in vinegar would eventually kill algae, WHY THOUGH?? WHY play such a dumb game? It's well known what eradicates algae - Chlorine mixtures. That's what 99% of us all use and that's THE ONLY THING I have ever seen any roofing manufacturer suggest, along with the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturer's Association. http://www.asphaltroofing.org/algae-discoloration-roofs
They say "bleach" but in reality, grocery store "bleach" won't work - probably because it's been bottled up so long it's too weak?
I did a test on my next door neighbors roof-using pure bleach and Dawn dish liquid and while it cleaned some, it didn't compare to a fairly equal mixture of fresh pool chlorine. BOTH are S H.
Household bleach, used to say it was around 5% I just checked my wife's bleach and it says 8.25% ???
Most of us know that if you keep chlorine in a tank for a week, it's weaker. This bottled bleach, that claims 8.25% has been not only bottled for who knows how long, but has also sat on a shelf in a grocery store etc for who knows how long?
It may in reality, be 3-4%
You are at the most knowledgeable website in existence for roof cleaning information.
Do some research here and you will see that the ONLY roof cleaning mixture, worth a tinkers damn is made with chlorine. Mix your vinegar with olive oil and eat tossed salad! LOL

It absolutely amazes me what some roof cleaning companies will tell customers, or other inquisitive people, what they are gonna use to clean a roof with!
