This might be a neat tool to view a roof without getting up on a roof. Some of our homes are built on a hill and hard to view 100% of the roof. This would be more of a marketing tool. "Local company using drones".

Neat yes,..needed,..no way. Can't think of any situation where it would be an asset. I've looked at a lot of roofs over the years,..not that hard. I look at access more than anything else,..I just take for granted the roof is moldy and is gonna be sprayed. I don't need to see every shingle to evaluate it.
MAYBE, if you have that house that one side of a roof you can't see and the customer wants to know if it's moldy and needs cleaned,..BUT i always seem to find a way to see that side, not a big deal.
Gimmicky yes,..good conversation piece, certainly,..using roof cleaning as a reason to buy it,..go ahead. But it's not an expense to take on as a needed item to evaluate a roof properly.

I n my primary business it was a god sent.....we use it to inspect gutters and downs on the house then play it back for the homeowner so they can see first hand what needs to be done...cuts down on pulling out the ladder plus i dont need two people when we use a ladder as mandated by my insurance company .......so all i can say it works for me.... ps we use a ar done 2 ..looking to upgrade to a dji vision 2.....

Hey Ed,..I was answering the roof cleaning question,..you're bringing in other uses which is fine,...but the question he asked pertained to roof cleaning,..not roof repair or gutter cleaning.
As I said,..it's fine and quirky if you already have one or have one for other purposes,..but it isn't a necessary tool for evaluating a roof cleaning.
One of those things that if I already owned it for leisure use, it wouldn't hurt to break it out as a neat little toy/tool to impress customers, but I doubt I'd buy it just for that use. Like Ed was hinting at, if you wanted to show the customer something on their roof versus just telling them.
We have a dji vision 2 plus and love it. Went from a 2 man estimate to just myself now. Which lets me use my other guy to be working somewhere else. Plus the customers love it as well. I let them watch the screen as I video their roof and it lets the feel as if they are inspecting the roof also. Works for our company.
Mike Roberts,..are you saying it took two of you to price a roof? Ha,Ha,Ha,.. You're kidding right,..seriously,..that is one of the most ridiculous things I've seen someone willing to admit for a while. Wait,.let me register this in my mind,..It takes two of you to price a roof,...
Makes me wonder how many guys it takes to do the actual work.

We do 90% of our roof cleaning estimates over the phone, using Google, and various real estate sites. A Drone is very cool, but would require an actual trip out to the customers place. I can see where it could be useful, like Ed says, to show the customer on site how nasty his roof and gutters really are.
So, my thoughts are with Jeff and Eric from Liberty Softwash here, a Drone is cool, but not absolutely needed in the roof cleaning business. But the Child in me loves to play, so a Drone could easily be a write off
raystown, are you insured....the reason most of us have to use two men is to comply with our insurance like myself .most of us actually will walk the roof for a per-inspection if you have some other way of doing it let us know ....if you don,t want to use a drone then don't...but keep your smart ass replies to yourself.....

Ed, I finally did something I have been wanting to do, I made you a signature for the forum!
The link I put in your signature for you will greatly help your website get found in a local search, and sometimes the forum itself will get pulled up in a search as well.
Do you offer roof and gutter cleaning service in Columbus, and all of Union County Ohio ?
So Jeff w/ Raystown...
I'm glad you found some humor. See I'm not so simple minded ! See my insurance states that if I climb my ass up on a roof that I need someone to hold the ladder. Hopefully I made that as simple as possible for you!!! I tell you what...why don't call me and explain the way I should be running my business, since that is the most ridiculous thing you have heard, I'm always willing to learn. Never once did I state that a drone was a must, just a little something different than the next man. And for wondering how many guys it takes for me to do job, well again call me...my number is posted.
Ed,.. first off I will make any smart ass remark I feel like,..So, here's another for you,...if you need to walk a roof to price it you're just as ridiculous.
Mike,..Yes there is a better way to do it, and I don't need to call you to tell you what it is,...just look at it from the ground Ha,Ha,.. Very simple method. Heck,..I don't even get on the roof to spray it.
I know some who estimate using Google Earth,..They are doing it from a recliner.
Ed and Mike, if you are following you're insurance guidelines as you say,.. then you're also harnessed in when you're on the roof doing your walk around. It's only getting better.
Ed, saying "Most" roof cleaner use two guys is not a validated remark,..and nothing but an attempt to make it sound like you're in the majority.
*Nice touch with the bold letters,..but not very effective.
**You both say you're willing to learn,..well this is one of the best forums for learning,..so keep reading.
