Exactly! If anyone has ever let a surface cleaner set running for like 30 seconds in one spot on a driveway, you know they will etch swirl designs into hard, hard concrete! Even if a surface cleaner will run at 500 psi [never tried?] that does not mean it won't cut and blow granules off of shingled roofs. I'm sure it will! Occasionally, I have customers tell me that a competing bidder on his roof job, says he uses a surface cleaner or that the bidder plans to pressure wash it, but that the pressure is turned way down. I ask them "How will you know if their pressure washer is set at 3000 psi or at 500 psi ?? They say "I guess I won't know" I say "Even if you put a pressure gauge on it and they actually had it set on 500 psi, does that mean you think your roofs shingle granules will stay in place, with 500 pounds per square inch of pressure blasting it?"
A little reasoning goes a long way and I usually give them enough clarity, that they stick with my "No Pressure" cleaning bid.

I could never figure why they want to do it this way anyhow,..seems like alot more work than the way we do it.

Like I said Jeff, I believe the Roof Shampoo Process to use S Hydroxide, and this is nothing new. In fact, this company here in Florida has long made super duper roof cleaning equipment, using this process https://www.flickr.com/photos/38608277@N02/3550227332/in/photostream/
Yes, the Roof Shampoo process is a lot more work, and it is also much slower. Were you asking why the Roof Shampoo applicators do it this way, or why the home office does it the way they do it Jeff ?
Hey Chris,..I was just asking in general,...but I assume being a franchise, the contractors have to abide by the rules of the franchise. Also,..I actually thought they used S Percarbonate,..which wouldn't work without pressure neither,..but at least it doesn't attack the asphalt in the shingles the way Hydroxide will.

Jeff, I can't find any MSDS Sheets for them to see what chemicals they are using, but I assume it is either S Hydroxide or maybe S Percarbonate. As you know, both require pressure to remove from the roof

I tried the M-1 when it came out, on the back of my own shingled roof in a 2' wide strip, followed directions, but, the roof only looked 50% clean. I tried Spray and Forget in the same manner and after about 4 months, it too left the 2' strip looking partially clean = better than before, but not something I would attempt to sell a customer. Both were returned to the stores I bought them from for a refund.
We get customers that attempted to clean their roofs with Spray and Forget. Nearly all of them were disappointed. We refer to the product as Spray and Regret.

Do you mean an article like this one? I hired a cartoonist for the "800lb gorilla" image. You can use if it if you'd like.
Nice! That picture of the granules in the gutter is a great example to show people who question why you don't use pressure washers. Might have to keep that one on my phone if you don't mind.
