More then likely somebody dumped over the house wash mix and didn't clean it up.

Do the downspouts or drainage system run under the lawn? Perhaps it's run off from the roof. My other thought is a very large drunk animal had to go and mark it's territory.

Very Good! That is exactly what happened here, the downspouts ran into the ground (we assumed), but the God Darn things emptied out into the grass instead!

A light rain came, then disaster!

I would still blame it on the animal. Do I win anything?

I have to disagree. Rain would dilute the mix and the dry well would have to be very shallow for a light rain. The down spout is a least 20' away. I have to go with a 5 gallon bucket of house wash mix dumping over.

Art,

On the left side of the photo it looks as if there is a drainage pipe exposed. Also, everything in Florida is shallow.

Nope, I thought the same, but we just cleaned this tile roof!

There are actually 6 of these dead spots, and 6 downspouts !

You can't really see the downspouts in the pic, but when I asked my Son, who did this job, he told me about the "underground" downspouts.

The lady we did this job for is a real mean lady, she lives out of state, and is threatening to Sue us!

This Grass is basically a weed called St Augustine Grass, it grows by creeping. In a month or so, these spots will be gone.

I offered to replace the spots with pieces of Sod, but she wants a whole new lawn!!!!!!!!!!

Pat,

I see this all the time up here in the Poconos. The downspouts that do run underground are tied into perforated black plastic pipe that is constantly in need of replacement. Builders install them, the ground settles and they collapse or get clogged from dirt, leaves, etc.. We use a homemade gutter cane to flush the gutters before during and after each job. It sucks but it is what it is.

Hank

Well, at this point, nothing! She became totally irrational IMHO, over what amounts to a few pieces of Sod, that I offered to replace!

Again, she has what is called St Augustine Grass, and it is basically a creeping weed! In less then a month or so, this dead grass will mostly be gone, even w/o resodding.

But when she threatened to Sue us, that's when I told her "This Conversation is over".

I had a drainage tube that went under a palm tree once.  The roots had grown into the tube.  It toasted the palm tree.  I was able to talk my way out of that one when I dug up the tube for the owner and showed him the problem...

Now when I see a drainage tube that I can not find the end of, I write that on the invoice and make a note that I am not responsible if something gets killed if the owner proceeds with the roof cleaning.

This was a first for us, and just goes to show everone, that we all never stop learning, when it comes to cleaning roofs.

Here in Florida, what we encountered was against code! 99 percent of downspouts that drain into the ground actually DO so!

This builder decided to be cheap, and simply ran a piece of flex pipe from them to basically a ditch, right UNDER the grass!

Even using a Gutter Can would not have prevented what happened here! This tile roof was large, and extremely filthy!

The damage happened after we left, when the rain rinsed about 350 gallons of tile roof cleaning mix off the roof!

This customer has left 2 bad reviews of our company already! One at the BBB, and this one http://www.yelp.com/biz/apple-roof-cleaning-tampa-florida-tampa#hrid:xhPs5g6gmbmqlsRVtti-7w

You can see my response, by clicking on the link. This woman is a real piece of work, and a liar as well. Over basically a few pieces of browned grass that was not our fault, she is intent on trying to ruin us.

Yep, it was a big tile roof, w/detached 3 + Car garage, and it was absolutely FILTHY too!

Not that it is ever "OK" to harm a customers grass, but this grass is called St Augustine. It creeps, like a weed. In less then  a month, I would be willing to bet this spot will be completely covered with grass again.

This customer got some bids from pressure washers much lower then ours, and now she feels "ripped off".

So, in her mind, we not only "ripped her off", we also killed her grass!

I doubt that flooding the gutters, or using gutter canes would have done anything either.

The grass did not brown and spot for 3 to 4 days after the cleaning!

The rain did this, by rinsing all the tile roof cleaning chemical off the roof, to non standard downspouts that emptied right below her grass.

A Builder cut a corner, and now we are paying for it  cry
