I would have cleaned the entire roof for 525....if it needed it, with the shed of course.
Wow 525? That roof doesn't even look like it's 3000sqft. I wish we could get those prices here. Down here in S. FL with all the competition you can cut that price in half. Anybody with a home depot pressure cleaner will clean any roof for $150. They don't care if its shingle or not. They keep the roofers busy by blasting away all the granules and destroying the roof.

LOL! Poor Art...Just tell him your not a member or certified! So you cant help.............
Gotta admit, I pretty much feel like Art does. I think the training of a roof cleaner should start with the old 100 posts first. During that time, the person should be using the "Search" feature and reading to learn.
I do not believe it should be thrown in someones lap, with an unearned free on the job training.
Why should one out of hundreds get this special training?
If someone chooses to do that, it should be training him to compete with them, in their town, not mine or another members town.
That's how I feel, right or wrong - for now.
On the other hand, your reply post was funny and very true.

That is how I originally had it, but it got all twisted around by the enemies of the RCIA Chuck.
They twisted it all around, and got people to believe someone could be Certified here, just by posting 100 times!

I remember that crap well Chris!
Idiots saying that our original certifications back in 2009, when I was first certified, was simply a matter of making 100 posts. Nothing could be further from the truth!
100 posts was just a start, to show serious interest. Noone could be certified, until you personally talked with them on the phone and then asked a series of questions, that would show whether we knew what we were doing or not.
When I was certified by you in 2009, we talked for well over an hour on the phone.
I knew what I was doing and you recognized that.
In my opinion, nothing done online or on paper, can match having an expert roof cleaner like you, actually talk and ask questions of another roof cleaner, to truly learn what he knows and how he is doing things.
The previous 100 posts helps set the stage for that conversation / certification.
It was not a certification that could be bought, as some places offer. It was you - the expert, having a discussion, that proved to you - the owner of RCIA, that a person was worthy of an RCIA certification, that this roof cleaner cleaned roofs the way RCIA accepts as a professional manner of cleaning, without using any pressure.
We all have our own feelings, beyond that.
Mine is that other than a very exceptional reason, noone should be asking for hands on training, without first making the reasonable efforts - including at least 100 worthwhile posts and doing considerable reasearch at RCIA.
I do not consider RCIA a place to show up at, beg for a quick start, have someone goodheartedly volunteer and get hands on training for free OR FOR A FEE.
I am not the one in charge, so it's not my say either way - just my opinion.
Life is life and things happen. Either way, it's not a world stopper.
I just replied, because I was going through my emails and this post was there.
Now, I will go to bed! Got 2 roofs in the morning and a pressure washing job in the afternoon.
I'm in so much pain, I can't imagine what I will feel like after tomorrow!!!

Chuck please explain. Someone shouldn't be allowed to learn hands on until they make posts on this forum? If anything the certification may have it's own requirements, and it does. But if a guy wants to learn the ropes he shouldn't have to "pay his dues" by reading night after night on the forum. When I first came around I did read.... Practically every post ever made! I would have loved for someone to take me under their wing for a few jobs. Even if that happened I still would have read them all. Most guys here know that almost anyone can clean a roof, it's easy. The hard part is the marketing and actually building a solid customer base. That is what most guys can't do. That is the key. Their is no secret to cleaning roofs, not anymore. If these guys aren't helped they will just go elsewhere. Either another roof cleaning association, or pick up a pressure washer....
I used to think anyone could clean a roof, but not so much anymore. There are so many little secrets that you learn over the years that can be very costly for those who dont know.....trial and error. I agree that if a person does not want to read he should be able to do hands on training.....thats why I will show anyone for $500 in one day....$400 if you respond to this ad within two days......of course only $300 for my pal Art!
Charlie, you are RCIA Certified, so why do you not display your Certification on your website ?
I looked all over your website, and not one mention of the RCIA, your training, or your Certification.

OK. One simple reason is: I started out here in SW Florida, in business, with a few competitors in 1989.
Now, I have a hundred. You probably don't have as many competitors in your entire state as I have within a 15 mile radius. If you did, you'd see why I am not in favor of "Instant Competition" for myself or others.
If you want to instantly create competition for yourself, in your town, that's fine. Watch the prices drop, as the new guy wants whatever he can get and starts doing your $500.00 roofs for $200. I deal with this constantly.
Creating competition for other established roof cleaners outside your locale, ain't so nice.
I learned the hard way. Now, with RCIA here, noone has to learn it as hard of a way as I did, but why would anyone just want to give it all away? That defeats the purpose of RCIA in a flash!
Another thought I have had through the years, as I watch roof cleaners pile up in my area, is what do you think will happen to our livelihood, when roof cleaners are so commonly on the road, that accidents start occuring, chlorine spills increase and the EPA says "NO MORE TRANSPORTATION OF SODIUM HYPOCHLORITE"
I'm not ready to start using spray and forget, are you?
Remember, I'm not talking nasty to you. I have noticed before that my manner of typing, looks crude and argumentative. It's not meant to be, it's just the reply you asked me for.

As sad as it sounds I dont have any control over my website......I have contacted the guy who runs it for me and mentioned it a long time ago. I'll have to call him again. That site cost me fifty bucks....I have to get a new one soon.

That sucks Charlie. In my local area, people are actually searching for a certified roof cleaner, as this screen shot clearly shows.
This is a screen shot of the search "roof cleaning tampa"
You can see at the bottom of the search, who or what people are searching for, and you will see me, as well as the roof cleaning institute, in that search!

I agree 100% with you on the 1st part of your post. But, I know if I get $500 and train a guy in my local area, I will lose more than $500 back to his newbee cheap bidding for the first year or 2 at least. Then even when his prices go up to normal,he will be competition!

Chances of prices dropping instantly dropping are less when taught how to price jobs, and I don't see the gain of buying time by necessitating posts. Competition is coming to everyone irregardless of post requirements. Anywho to each his own. I wouldn't mind more competition that cleaned the right way vs. all the pressure washers.
