I got one email and one phone call in the last two weeks. One I sent here and the other one came from here. I still say they need to do some research first and see whats going on. Then ask for some out side help. There is more to roof washing besides shooting soap on a roof. They will not learn roof washing on one job. Reading and Posting here goes a long way in the tips and tricks dept.
Hey Art, There are some here like myself that could take that even a step further,... and ask those wanting to start up to not have any forum help at all. I,... like some others here, started on OUR own and became successful , without ANY internet help. Sure we've all learned from the boards, but we didn't have to have them to get started. The boards just complimented our already established business's. But in reality it's called movin' on with the times, if Hank wants to help someone, who cares, I sure don't care. Some people think everyone should learn how to use a map,..but why when we have GPS. Just depends on when you come onto the scene I guess.
Jeff having a forum like this helps you move along quicker. I myself learned a lot here. I still believe reading all the many threads helps a lot. Its like reading direction on building something. It helps you put things together. If Hank wants to help the guy fine. But the newbie should learn the process of roof cleaning first. Read threads , make some friends and find the connections. The connection is one of the most important parts of the puzzle. Without them you got nothing. Unless you want to shop at Walmart.
Yes Art, learning from these boards is benefit to a new guys as well as an established business. And if he only reads some and gets ALOT help from a helpful person, good for him. Paying learning curve dues is usually pushed by those who had to do the same,.. and are generally pissed because they get easy what some had to work harder for. So what, that's how it goes. If I could have had someone SHOW me how to do it I would have jumped all over it.
Oh good lord. Send the dude down here. I will teach him. I could use the free labor right about now. Of course,,,, he may think twice about getting into this when I'm done with him. Lol...

Art, now you know why I wanted 100 posts here on the forum!
Unfortunately, the enemies of the RCIA "had a field day with that". They twisted the 100 post requirement all around to make people think that "all you had to have was 100 posts to be RCIA Certified".
After all thats been said I will handle any call as follows......sure I will show you for $ 500......
The newbie has offered to PAY someone to help him, and he put up money to join us.
I have had several phone conversations with him, and he seems like a quality guy. He is a general contractor who does high dollar remodel jobs, says it takes too long to get paid.
He liked the idea of doing a roof in a day, and getting paid that day.
Quite frankly, I liked him, and were he closer to me, I would train him myself.
He is many miles away from anyone here, and even if he wasn't, why not make a friend with a future competitor ?
This guy WILL learn how to clean roofs, count on it. He is very very serious, has money, and is a General Contractor.
He will go "all the way" with his venture into roof cleaning, meaning he plans to eventually become RCIA Certified.
Of course, I can't tell him what to do, nor will I.
But, speaking ONLY for me, I know I would not have any mercy, in a competitive situation, for any roof cleaning company that showed me the cold shoulder, when I asked for help.
"that showed me the cold shoulder, when I asked for help". First off Chris if he is so determined he should fly down to you for training. You suggested he call Art but he called others as well...is that fair to put us on the "spot "to train him for free? I mean he paid you to be a member not me, and Chris maybe you should have instructed him to read, post and make friends. Instead you put some of us on the spot, those got heat for not helping and for trying to help. The point is he paid to be a member and was told to make calls and have someone train you....thats not fair to hang us out there. He paid you Chris to join your fourum, not me. As far as showing any mercy are you kidding me? So we all should shake when the phone rings because some guy just joined and if I dont train him for free he will be mean to me? Come on! Suppliers make money I'll make money...$500 if you dont want to read and work for it....$500 and you have it all in one day............

I remember that well Chris. Some tried to belittle the original certifications that we did back in 2009, trying to make it look like you just made 100 posts and got certified. That was bolony!
I made my 100 posts and then was verbally tested by you in 2009 to get my certification back at that time.
Then got certified under the current cert program.
The 100 post idea was a wise part of starting up the certifications.

I certainly paid my dues to learn roof cleaning. I was put in a hole in Pats basement and forced to rub lotion on my skin while he sat there watching. It was creepy, but I learned.
Ed, the lesion with the oil was to teach you even distribution in tight places, and a day or two in a hole does everyone some good. Art's next...he seems a little to excited, something about a man thong?

So thats what Pat was up to the other day when I stopped by his house. He was standing by the basement stairs with a pair of hand cuffs in his hand and wanting me to go in the basement with him. I ran to my truck and got my ass out of there.

He was asking to be trained, and was willing to pay for it. If giving you guys the chance to make money is "putting you on the spot", then excuse the heck out of me.
