Now that this is on the premium side I will share an experiance I have had with the Gain dish washing soap. On Asphalt shingles with no moss or heavy Lichen it worked well, my helper noticed right away a better cling and slower run. Now right before Thanks Giving I did a roof that had a decent amount of moss on it, the first spray seemed to the trick but we gave it a second coat. Withen four weeks not much came off, eight weeks much of the same. We had a enough snow and rain to remove the dead moss by now, there is a third of it still on there and very noticable and I will have to retun to remove it. So I have to think/wonder why? What was different this time? This year? The only thing different was the gain, so here is what I think. The gain goes on thick and slow giving you a false sense of security on heavy moss/Lichen. not enough strong Sh is hitting the stuff. So until further testing I say this.....Roof with small lichen or moss fine with Gain....Heavy stuff less soap of any brand and possible 3 coats. Just a heads up for now........

Now THIS is the kind of shit I need to hear! I do not own stock in proctor and gamble, who make gain. I am simply trying to make all roof cleaners lives easier, but reporting on my discoveries. Gain works great, for us, here in Florida.

But I never tried it on Moss!

I have used it at 44 ounces to a 100 gal mix on tile and shingles and it was better than Ammonyx Lo. I do have a lot of Am Lo though, so I mix it together and it also works great. I have not seen a negative side, except in a test, using 88 ounces Gain, it made a lot of bubbles in the air and at downspouts, but it cleaned tile just fine. I have no moss and very little lichen experience.
Glad to see the thread moved and not give valuable info away to just anyone!

I am touched by the comments wanting to help this person with his sick child by giving a free membership, but I can also forsee problems in the future being generated by any decision on this. For example;

6 months down the road, his business is starting to take off and RCIA asks that he pay the fee. For "some" reason he refuses. RCIA shuts down his permissions on the forums. Do we remove his promo posts and links? If so, then we are portrayed as the "bad guys" all over the internet and nobody believes our side. Or we leave all the posts and links, and the present paid members refuse to re-new and want the same free ride as he got with all the benefits of membership.

Similiar things have happened in the past where 2 members were given memberships paid for by other members, built a small business, and then refused to re-new the following year. They are both still active in the industry and never miss a chance to "bad mouth" RCIA.

These ideas are great, but sometimes they are NOT what they seem and come back to "bite you in the butt". Does anybody feel that a free membership will really benefit this person?  If he can't afford $129.00, how is he going to buy equipment, chemicals, insurance, and advertise his services? Just looking at this in the proper perspective. Most everyone wants their own business, but few have the desire and drive to follow thru with what it takes. Just look at the membership rooster. Over 3000 members and only less than 200 active who are building a business the right way. Wonder how many are just doing it for beer money and taking business away from members who support RCIA?  Some things to consider.

Chris it is a good idea to help him. You need to do what you feel is right and trust your gut instinct. Chris as far as this quote of yours... The pic of that sick Kid made me cry my eyes out Chuck. Seriously it did. I no longer fight tears, and welcome them, when they come.

Not that I'm trying to teach you something you don't already know but let me share this with you. As a young kid my grand father told me this....a man is not a man because of the size of his muscles....a man is a true man buy the size of his heart. I teach this to my own 15 yr old son that he will pass it on to his own son...

Chris you have my support to give this kid a membership...

I would say yes to a membership on a loan basis. But set a deadline as to when it is paid back, if its not paid by the deadline, take it away. Helping others makes us all feel warm and fuzzy inside! LOL

What if we have a paid member in his area now or in the future,is it fair? Is it fair to those who paid and can't afford it either at this time, like me?

Chris, RCIA is yours, if you see fit to help an individual, that's your business!
I'm always missing something and I missed this thing about him having a sick kid-I just saw the request for free info. I'm a sick "OLD" kid myself, so I can sympathize. What we think on this doesn't matter. If I wanted to clean a roof for a family in need [and I have] I'd just do it!
I own my business, just like you own RCIA.
Gary did make valid points of course, but the final decision is all yours!
Nothing wrong with being a good guy and you are!

It's better to cry easy, than be a make believe "Real man" and say "Men don't cry"

My dad was a real man and I had super respect for him, but those are the words he said to me, when I cried at around 15 years old, he said "Grow up, men don't cry, babies do"

I didn't cry after that for 33 years. Right up to the day I got a call that my dad just died of a heart attack at 61 years old. Then I cried a few times and that was it, up until the doctor told my 45 year old wife, in 1996, that she probably had 6 months to live, with pancreatic cancer. She actually lived almost 9 more months, but it was 90% pure hell for both of us and the 14 and 15 year old kids that still lived at home, out of the 5 we had. I cried that day and most days for the next 9 months and even after that, I too, up to this day, will break into tears and outright crying over anything that really touches me.

Not everyone would be affected the same, especially a guy like me, who was always a roughneck/fighter for many years. Those days are gone now, I was still pretty tough up until about maybe 3 years ago. Now I have so many health problems, I can hardly walk, let alone fight!

Fortunately, I have no desire to be like that anymore, so I don't have a problem with it. I have a giant problem though, with my health robbing me of living a worthwhile life!

Sorry to hear about that Chuck, but you have done a great Job, your Boy works with you! She would be happy to know that, I bet ?

I too had to raise my Boy, his Mom was on Kidney Diallyssis, had to et her opil changed 3 times a week, for hours at a time! She nearly died before she got a kidney transplant.

It is raining so hard here, I can hardly hear the keys when I type~!

 Thank You!

I was starting to write about just my wife first-that's where the 33 years came from, but for my dad it was only 25 years until I cried, from 15 on to the day I got the call that my dad died. It was 13 years after that [33] that my wife died.

Yes, I was so surprised when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, that they immediately said it could not be cut out and that she had about 6 months to live! I hope they come up with a quicker way to detect pancreatic cancer and that it will then be curable. She had been sick for about 3 months, and after seeing 3 different doctors and 2 visits to the hospital, nobody knew! They guessed depression- shrink gave her 3 psyche meds / chronic fatigue syndrome / fibromialgia / pain pills. lastly, she got an unrelated urinary tract infection. We went in to a walk in doctor "Dr Eagar in Englewood,Fl" and he knew with 1 look!!! He was from India { Of course } and lacked bedisde manners [who cares] he said "You either have Aids or cancer!" After 23 years together, we knew it was cancer. He sent us to Sarasota Memorial and called ahead. We were met by 2 doctors. They said "She has cancer, why hasn't she been to a doctor?" I told them "She has been to 3 doctors and twice to the Englewood Hospital and they thought she had depression / chronic fatigue syndrome / fibromialgia /" They said "They must be a bunch of idiots!"

The cancer doctor met with us and said she wasn't going to give us false hope, my wife was going to die, probably within 6 months. She said, but I will see to it, that it's not a painful death. She used a new chemo and I had no ins so I paid $517.00 a week just for the med-the doctor said she would wait for her money. Hospice was sent and were absolutely wonderful! Once we got hospice, we also got Medicaid and they paid for everything after that.

Terrible ordeal and I wouldn't want to see anyone else have to live through it. But the fact is, people do every day!

Thanks Chris. Yes, she most certainly would be happy with my son working with me for all these years! She would also be very happy with the wife he married and the man my "at home" daughter married after she died.

No rain here? Had a nice break today! A SHINGLED ROOF!!!!
