I had some shoes for crews sneakers and they only lasted about a week. Maybe I was just unlucky or maybe I dance to much. Lol
Cougar paws last a long time you will need to replace the bottoms though as they wear out over time.
On flatter roofs I wear fisherman boots but for anything steeper or sketchy if I'm walking the roof I have the cougar paws.

My shoes for crews last about 6 months. They do stick. But watch out when you go inside after walking in dirt or mowed grass. It get trapped in between all those little dots. I have walked down steep wet grassy hills expecting to slip a little and nothing. As far as grip goes I haven't found anything better. I wear them golfing now instead of golf shoes.

Nothing beats cougar paws.

The softer the sole the better for roofs.

I think it was Brian from The Roof Cleaners that mentioned them ... I was using skateboard shoes that stuck like glue; this year I'll go with the paws.

Safety is priority #1 this season as we're (finally) using harnesses and anchors. Also using a second ladder, should give me more of an incentive to shoot from the ladder and not get on the roof, which 95% of the time I don't need to do anyway. If and when I'm on the roof, I'm wearing a harness, no matter what. I'll hopefully be having my crew do the roofs at some point this season so I really want to set a good example from the start.

I'm with you as far as safety goes, we will be harnessing and wearing respirators, gloves and proper attire at all times.

I wish I could get my son to use these safety features!
He refuses and after over 19 years working for me, there's no bossing him around.
Of course, I tried to use these safer methods of cleaning, back when I could still clean roofs myself, but each thing I tried - and I tried 'em all, never stuck. I always went back to only 3 safety items - hat, sunscreen and good boots or shoes. It's very hard to stick with these important measures!

Talking about safety never gets old, and mentioning sunscreen is great advice Chuck. This is one of those professions that can slowly kill you, avoiding the sun, wearing a respirator, having the proper fall protection, and using it 100% of the time no matter the pitch, is something as professionals we should all be practicing. If nothing else, as Chris mentioned, we owe it to our families.

Shoes for crews for us. Started using them last season, and love the way they stick. Not only when you need to get on a roof, but on the wet ground also. Love them.

I would like to start using the harness too.  I have it, but never have used it.  Where do you tie off?  Do you use that pole that goes into the vent pipe?

This guy was seen at a Roundtable, so I asked him if he cleaned roofs, you can see his response

Man we've been using shoes for crews for about 2 years now I buy the Bull Frog boots for me and the guys and just use calf socks. I buy a size smaller than what I use and put insoles in them. They work great for tile roofs and have gotten a bunch of friends that pressure clean to use them. Your feet are dry all day and they will save your ass.

Say! I got a call today from a potential customer in Ft Myers.

That's farther than I travel, unless a time comes I have no work at all.

It was this afternoon and the guy asked me if I knew of another roof cleaner who used the same method as me.

I couldn't think of any. You should give him a call. He asked what to expect to pay for a 3000 sq ft "under roof" job. I said between $600 and $750.

His number is 239-822-5524

Tell him Chuck Bergman sent you!

Someday you can send me some little shingled roof job in Punta Gorda / Port Charlotte in return. PM me the email you use and I'll send you more in the future!

Also, show me what area you cover.

Chuck
