Great advice Chris. And make sure it is "original" content. If Google crawls your site and spots copied content, they consider it "duplicate content" and will penalize your site. When you create your content, write it for your customers and not for Google. Put yourself in the customers shoes and try to imagine what would make you stand out from the other 10 guys. like This, roof cleaning

This month I'm hoping to put together my website(I know it's about time). What I want to know is how often do you guys update or change it(i.e. add or change photos, videos, content, pages, etc)? I'm the first to admit that I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff and this is not a joke.

Hank you are not alone, Im terrible with website stuff and seo. Just ask your web builder to help you, listen to the pros here on RCIA . Keep us posted and also put a preview of the site up before it goes live and there are some great members here on RCIA that will look at it and give you some great advice.
I had a new WP site built last year with tons of city pages. It was built to replace an html site that is not very user friendly. I spent a few G's getting it built but Im too afraid to attach my original domain to it for reasons Mike Jackson just mentioned.
Same problem here. I've been working on a new wordpress site to replace my original html site. Just a little scared to make it live. My original site doesn't rank very high in searches anymore but it does pop up in searches that my other sites don't.

Bringing this topic back up. I saw pros and cons to adding to or making changes in a current website you have. Can some of the "in the know guys" like Chris T. Help us out with some facts? I had just noticed that SOMEHOW, 2 logos I had on my 1st page website disappeared for no reason I can imagine and one was RCIA. I spent some time on the phone with Godaddy and got them back on again!

Make sure your website is up every week or two too. Mine had been down for less than a month. What I mean is we showed up on search. But when you clicked it, the page couldn't be found.
I didn't notice it, someone else did.
What is was was my hosting company changed the url or something of the site, and the company that "owns" my domain, I thought I did?, lol! I guess the company that I got the url from. The company I went through. Was still pointing to the hosting company. But the place I bought the url from pointing to a place that had changed at my hosting company???
None of this has ever made sense to me! Still don't.
It is all fixed now. Only took about a half hour, an international call to Australia, bunch other calls.
Really explains why it slowed down so much! LOL!!!
