Bear with me I'm just whining. I knew things were bad when I got up at 5:15am this morning and it was 21 degrees (all pumps/equipment are stored inside the shop nightly).  At 6:51am our customer (roof cleaning, house wash and gutter cleaning) called to inform me he doesn't have any running water. He suspects he lost the well pump. It doesn't surprise me with the storm we had last week and power outages/surges. He didn't want to pay me to haul water over there either. Oh well (pun intended).

This not only sucks for me but for my employees who rely on me for their livelihood.

I hear you Hank, I woke up to go running this morning at 6:00 ... I had a cup of coffee in my hands and was watching SportsCenter at 6:05 ... I'm trying to get 1-2 a day but we're not leaving the shop til 10 so we'll see how it goes. Tomorrow is gonna be another wash out so I'm hoping to close out my remaining customers over the next 2 weeks then move everyone to March.

I'm going to Sea Isle this weekend to do a few friend's houses (flat work/lower level) so I'll see if there's any potential for some work down there, but I'm anxious to wrap things up and start my winter project. Like you & Mike, keeping food on my employee's table is what's keeping me going.

Week of thanksgiving is gonna be my shutdown date, then I'm moving everything else to march. This sunday I am doing a "Dan from Pristine marketing campaign." I am going to specific developments that have walkable roofs and offer them $80-$120 gutter clean outs one day special. If they take us up on the gutter cleaning great, made some cash. If not I am going to hand them a flyer with our services and a business card promoting work in the spring. Sounds like a win / win ? Thoughts?

Ed,

You're right every day I wake up on this side of the dirt is a good thing. We'll make up for it after this storm and next week.

Hank

It didn't matter as I beat you both months according to my 12 year old accountant(i.e. my daughter) who you spoke to yesterday.

Hence the term was coined "Pristine Marketing"

It does sound much better than Gorilla Marketing. Nice pic of the van, you use all fiberglass ladders?

Fiberglass ladders too heavy.

We starting a lil later in the day too. Did that last year. Even 10 is still too early, might try 11 this year.

For gutter clean outs remember they are up in the air and freeze quicker, and thaw slower. The temps the night before are important too.

You have to get rid of bad employees somehow. I carry 2 fiberglass and 1 aluminum. The damn 32' is the heavy one, but it also feels more stable when your fully extened.

 Dan,

A young guy like you should be able to throw up a fiberglass ladder with your ground guy lickity split. This old man has trouble putting up a step stool. biggrin

This ladder couldve got past the gutter line, and a walkable roof.

It's a werner ladder, the best. At this height, my tech. said he felt very good!

Goal is charge double for gutter cleans high up like this. The only other option is to bid in a cherry picker!
