Al,

Those look like a sweet deal. How do they hold up to 33 and 40 foot ladders?

I have the 16 ft on there now.  I put my 24 on it along side off the 16 and I can probably get another next to it.  My son weighs in at 202 and he hung from the rear cross bar after we installed it.  It didn't even flex.

Al,

I'm sorry I didn't reply to you but I  nodded off on the couch last night(yes, I'm getting old). A buddy of mine has one for his general contracting company and he loves them for hauling material/equipment that can't fit or he doesn't want in the bed. Unfortunately, I have a ladder rack already. We use our 33' and 40' ladders 75% of the time on the homes we service. Not only are most new homes here 3 stories but the terrain/slopes around them are a horror story.

Hank

Yep,

I remember visiting relatives in PA.  Every time they gave directions it was over the hill, up on the hill or on the side of the hill.....

Nice looking ladder racks.  Are the ladders held on to the rack with velcro straps?  What happens if you have an emergency stop as I can cot see any hard mounted hardware that would keep them from shifting forward?

I have the velcro from my old rack plus 4 bungeys.   They're solid.  I can pull as hard as I can and they don't move.  I know what you mean by the thing to stop them.  I had one on the other rack but it won't fit.  I'm going to make a couple to fit this rack as soon as I get some time.

Bungeys might have helped me.  Last week I had a 10' step ladder blown off of my ladder racks.  It was strapped to a ladder rack with a 24' ladder in between by a 6' velcro strap that was wrapped around it 3 times.  For several years I have always used this configuration with no problem.  As I was driving down the tollroad the other day at about 65mph I heard a loud noise, looked in my mirror and saw my step ladder setting all wadded up in the middle of the tollroad...  I assume that the wind blew it off as I could not find the straps and I had mounted it on the ladder racks 2 jobs prior.

Ouch.  I've seen them in the middle of the road a few times.  Bet you're glad no one was behind you.  I think I may make a couple of those ratchet type nylon straps to fit and used them.  You've got me thinking now.

I use a 1 foot length of chain and a lock to keep my ladders on, in addition to bungees. The bunts keep them from bouncing and being too " loud" and the chain keeps them from going anywhere! We act sully lock everything down on the trailers....pws, generators, ladders, blowers. It keeps stuff from walking off, and in the case of the ladders, adds a degree of safety. We bought three four packs (12 locks) of master locks all keyed the same. Both trailers have the same locks, so we never have confusing key issues.

We now use boat buckles to secure all of our ladders. They work like a charm.

Good idea Ray.  I just got lazy about having to dig for my keys everytime I needed a ladder.  Everything else I have is bolted down to my trailer.

Al, thanks for getting me his number. I called him on Sunday to set up a time this weekend to pick up a set for Ray (Spray Wash) and myself. I have been trying to call again since Wed. to get his address but with no luck. With his Jacksonville Craigslist add being gone and no return phone calls, I'm gonna say it's safe to say they are sold.

Any how, good luck on Saturday with your appointment. I'll have to catch up with you next time I'm over that way (Dec. 23 for a Patriots/ Jaguars game).

Just went out and bought 4 cable bicycle locks.  they have a combination that you can set.  Set them all the same.  Now everything is locked down.
