I Got a call from a roofing supply company I do business with and they have a problem. They supplied a GAF shingle for a job and it is "Tobacco Juicing", as the GAF rep said.
Apparently it is relaeasing asphalt/oils like they have never seen. Filled the gutters and stained the side walk. I know this problem has been discussed to a degree. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this term and and the treatment of such an extreme case. I'm thinking a degreaser, Soduim Hydroxide? Any safe suggestions?
Agreed. Sodium Hydroxide will work to remove the staining. The question still remains though... why did this happen in the first place? If you don't have any of the products mentioned above already on hand, purple power is sodium Hydroxide based and will probably do the job.
I have heard this term "Tobacco Juicing" from my buddy who owns a roof company. Can't remember why or how he said it happended, but he said it made a MESS from the roof! He said for the most part Purple Power and some elbow grease did the trick. Did you get any before and after pictures of the cleaning?
