Cistern issues after roof cleaning

I would at least disconnect the gutters and rinse it sown really well. Maybe showing her that you are wiling to go the extra mile will ease her woes.

I would not be so quick to admit liability. First I would contact your insurance carrier and get them involved ASAP. Contact the chemical supplier on your chlorine label and ask for guidance on possible decontamination procedures. They will be a wealth of info and most are very happy to help. At this point I would offer testing of the water to determine what may be in it, but check with your insurance carrier first before you offer to do anything. This has to be one of the worst nightmares for anyone applying chemicals. Good luck, I hope this info helps.

Sound words from a man that knows his stuff re chemicals, EPA etc.

It is not drinking water. The dog and cat does not even drink it. We are disconnecting downspouts. We did one about a month ago with a flip valve, he keep it off for 2 weeks, no issues. I told her to expect both the discoloration and smell, the expectations were communicated in writing so there are no misunderstandings.

The client is not upset or asking me to buy water which is delivered every week for 50.00.

They have no filter system which in now mandatory.

I had a water hauler tell me today that they use the same chemicals to kill the bacteria in cisterns, he said cisterns should be cleaned professionally every 2 years and the water tested, neither has happen with this homeowner ever.

The hauler told me that she was getting a cistern clean for free, the after affects are common with roof and cistern cleaning.

A little chlorine in the cistern may not be so bad, your post got my attention because any potential well or stream contamination is a huge issue with anyone applying pesticides. Here is some neat info on actually using chlorine to decontaminate cisterns.

We disconnected the downspout, empty the cistern with a roof rinse, no smell or discoloration was present, reloaded new water and all is well.

Better than it sounded.

One time my buddy had a dead possum in his and they were drinking the water, a little roof love is better than a dead possum.
