Dumb question alert: Easy way to get a hose off of a barb?

I've been contemplating using quickconnects on my pump that will be replacing my current pumps, but Bob said they have a greater chance of causing leaks in the system.

Question: If I use 1/2" MPT x 1/2" barbs for the inlet and outlet of the pump and the pump goes bad, is there an easy easy way to pop the hoses off of the barb if it's been on there for a while? Last time I had a setup like that I got really ticked off because I couldn't get the hose off and had to cut it.

Ideally, I'd like to set the pump up so if I have a problem with it, I can easily swap it out and keep on working.

The new pumps will be fatboys and they will be replacing a different set up that just can't get the distance that we need.

I would just slice it, then make a nice cut once its off.

I think the quick disconnects are a great idea, I was considering doing the same. As for removing the barb, I would agree with Zach that cutting it would be the easiest way to remove or you may be able to use a heat gun to soften the hose and then pull it out without cutting the hose. Just don't let the heat gun get too close to the hose!

I use all QC's on my rig and its awesome, they last a lot longer and work better than the ones for my quad banger. I have not had any leaks yet.

Quick connects aint so bad if you rinse them out and keep them lubed. Get ready to pay, 1/2" quick connects aint cheap once you start buying a few pair. We use 1/2" quick connects on every truck since we do not run the mix through the reels anymore. Theyre still working good. I lube them up like once every 2 weeks.

Yeah, I paid 17 bucks for just one socket! Ed, do you have pics of your swivel bypass laying around still?

That's the main reason I use them, to bypass the pump and to hook up a whip line quickly.

Loosen the clamp on the hose, grip it firmly, then take a wrench to the hose barb to unscrew it. Let the hose spin on the barb.

I do that too Russ. Just gotta be sure not to cross thread. Phil I dont have the pic but I can tell you I have roughly a 4' whip out of the discharge side with a qc at the end. Nothing fancy.
