Yesterday in my neighborhood, a couple punks tried breaking into a home. The lady was home and scared them away, luckily. When the police arrived everyone learned something very valuable.
This home is currently on the market for sale. Don't know if it is common practice yet everywhere, but the realty company that has it listed places a sign in the yard with that crazy looking black and white code in a square, which when scanned with a smart phone takes you to the web listing showing all the interior rooms of the house. The police stated that there is a great increase in break-ins of houses for sale, and that the criminals will just pull up to a house with this type sign, scan it, and see what all is available for them to take and pawn. Sorta like and online market, pick and choose. The pics of the house yesterday showed a 60" TV, China cabinet full of china and silverware, a large stereo. and a gun rack full of weapons.
Would have been a pretty good haul if they had gotten in. If this is being used in your area, you may want to tip off any customer that has their house up for sale with this type signage. Customer education will go a long way in promoting our industry.
I am glad that your neighbor was unharmed but this would have been a MUCH better story if it involvoled a Beretta M92 and a couple of "would be robbers" taking a dirt nap!

if they where really high tech they would have know that most listing have the lockbox code on the MLs listing!!! it is usually at the bottom of the page where the notes are for the showing agent to see.
Also in the notes are viewing times ie when home owner is out of house at work!!!
Your right about the lock box code, the real estate agent I work for stopped putting his code on the listing when he figured out his listings were being handed out to the general public to review.
