about about 7600 or so in estimates out right now.. the next week is booked solid.

i've been getting a lot of roof cleaning calls, but the post card was for all of my services.. 2nd would be house wash, then decks, then pressure wash

honestly i want to get rid of decks as a service.. people usually dont want to pay a lot, and it takes up to many man hours.. so now i just price them high, if we get them awesome, if not, i dont care lol

With decks, I think I'd rather stain then clean.

Tom, I would rather clean decks then stain them, If you stain them it's just more equipment you have to lug around. I find it easier to be efficient at one thing then two things.

A brush is way smaller than a pressure washer. Have you seen the small battery operated Graco paint sprayers? When I first saw them I thought they would be worthless; but they are so small you can keep one with you at all times.

Really, that's all you need is a brush to stain a deck, what about Stain, sprayers, drop clothes, masking machines, tape, paint thinner, rags, roller covers roller screens, five gallon buckets, one gallon buckets and much, much more!

Still, it's way less than you need to clean it.

OMG! How do you figure that, don't you have a pressure washer? The only thing else you would need is two buckets of different types of cleaners!

You need alot more than just a brush. I bought the 18v Graco sprayer last year. My painter buddy said they work great. I still havent used it yet. If we're slow I'll stain, people just dont want to pay what its really worth.

and thats the bottom line.. its just not worth it.. people want to pay the money to build the deck.. but not to maintain it..

I like ur sub idea.. i know a few painters.. ill reach out to a few of them and see what they say.. the problem there is do i pay them hourly? or by job? id think by job, but then they might want to be there during the estimate problem.

If you sub a job out you are supposed to pay them buy the job and not by the hour. If you pay them by the hour they start to look like employees and then you could have to pay comp for them.

It doesnt matter how you pay subs, if they dont produce workers comp, you'll be paying at year end if your audited. I pay a painter by the job. I pay him good too. I make sure he makes roughly $100-$150 per hour. If the customer doesnt want to pay, let them shop and shop until they find what theyre looking for. We all know its hard to find a good reputable contractor who does both. (easy to find a hack). In NJ you need a home improvement contractors license for deck staining/painting, we got it. I clean well, my painter paints well. His truck has all the brushes, tarps, airless sprayers, cleaners, little ladders, big ladders, and most of all 100% solid painting experience. I'd rather clean roofs and other stuff, but I dont want to lose the job just cuz I hate doing deck.
