I have been placing my yard signs at busy intersection across my town. Someone is taking only my sign. Another guy has a hauling junk sign that hasn't been touched. It is driving me crazy! I have come to the conclusion that it must be a roofer. Little do they know, the more they steal my signs, the more I want to advertise.
They may just want the wire stands. Try to stay away from other contractors. Just move on to another area. Also try to stay away from corners with alot of signs. They get removed faster by the town.
Last summer I nailed the majority of mine to utility poles. They seem to out last wire stands by about 10 to 1. Harder to remove for the lazies and no mower to worry about.
my friend had people taking signs off his FRONT LAWN!!! he was advertising his business and other contractror were removing them.... and this was from his own lawn!!
I agree, i screw them to telephone poles now.. HIGH UP, with screws and washers so they are HARD to remove.. just use a cordless impact gun and your set.

You guys have any tips for these pesky roofers?

Here in NH we can't put out Lawn signs at intersections. Lawn signs can only be put on private property or the homeowners land. Call the local code enforcement officer or Building inspectors office to check the the by-laws. There is a code enforcement officer here in pelham that takes them down.
I had two old guys from my town spray painting my sign that was way up on a tree. Every Sunday morning I would get my 32 foot ladder out and wash it off with paint thinner. They had a spray can on a stick that could reach about 25' up. This went on for about 6 months. Finally they got it down and cut it into pieces. So I went back and put it up higher in the tree. It's been up in that tree about 2 years now. It's the most noticed sign I have. People say how did you get it up there. I say with a ladder. Bandit signs can be a pain in the azz. I spend a $1.20 a sign an thats it.

Like this ... It makes it more of a challenge for them!
I know its not a code enforcer, because the hauling junk signs get left alone! I'm going back with the impact drill. If that doesn't work, I am just going to save them for the HO yard once the job is completed. These signs work so well, I get a call from them every time I put about 10 out.

Around here , they passed a law where they will confiscate the sign if its on a public right of way and they can fine you $ 100.00 per sign . I have a friend on a the county road crew , the crew with the most signs at the end of the month gets a day off . he picks them up even on his days off . On a homeowners lawn is still ok .
