You should stand a quarter mile down the road with a sign that says "a drug addict slapped me and stole my roof cleaning rig" That should do the trick! Lol
It's creative? New thinking there.... We got guys here with signs on side of road, some just hold them and others are real creative flip 'em in the air and stuff. This isnt new around here so it must be some ROI?
In California there is a plumbing company on the radio. There plumbers smell good! Not sure how that works but friend there remembered that she had hired them once, when I asked her about the commercial?
Ha Ha the joke is on me, I was the mentally disturbed person out on the side of the road holding a sign, and yes every friend I know seen me lol
you guys just have to much pride to do that, you would rather litter peoples property up with flyers and rocks and baggies, you are scared to knock on someones door, your afraid they will say BOO
Trust me it a humbling experience to say the least.

I called Clyde before and told him I thought it was a great idea and that he should be the one out there doing it. He laughed at me for 10 minutes on the phone, then he confessed. This guy is a riot.
there was a new guy to politics in this area , He stood on the side of the road holding a sign with his name on it , he did it every day at various intersections , he also went door to door , more than any one has done ever before . He was at this a year and a half before the election . Paid off , he won , and kept moving up he is now top man in the county . I have gone door to door before , it works great . Knock , knock , knock , " hello sir , I was driving by and noticed your roof looks like chit , Heres a card and some pics of the work I do , if you want an estimate give me a call . " I am in the Home Improvement business , door to door works , especially if the door you are knocking on has a bad looking roof . Its nothing to be ashamed about . If I go door to door , I can land a job faster than advertizing and waiting for someone maybe to call .
honestly it's the hardest thing I have done! I had a lot of friends see me, where I was parked the owner of the property came and talked to me, and asked if thing are tough, I said yes, and I asked him if he minds if I park my rig on his comercial highway front property he said no, not at all.
I had a lady do a u turn and come and talk to me, she said, wow you must really need work, because your standing out here in 30 degree weather, I said, yes mam this is what I do I work in all these elements, and yes I do need work. she said I'm a realator let me have some cards.
just shortly ago That lady sent me an email saying she took my cards and distributed them in 3 offices and told many of her friends.
I don't expect to get much work immediately, but it will be an aftermath effect.

Yes Shingle MD, that is the best too, I just decided to hit high numbers, but I do that too, in reality that is not easy for most people either!
Well I hope it works for you Clyde. I do plan on a lot of Door Knocking, which I'm going to start in the middle to the end of February. I still need to make some brochures and some kick ass door knockers.

Thanks Zach I see have been in the service business, I'm sure you will do great!
I have never knocked on a door in my life, but not to many people know about roof cleaning so it MUST be done! I am actually looking forward to it..... okay maybe not. lol

Zach try standing on the side of a road with a sign for a few hours, knocking on a door will be easy, I promise you.
I don't think I'm a bum, I don't know of any bums that are roof cleaners, with a beautiful rig parked next to them.
I have only parked on the side of the road for a total of 3 hours. I have had over 3000 people see me that I know the majority of them lives in my service area, My truck is one of a kind, they will remember it, and they will know I clean roofs. I already get a lot of work from my truck when it is hidden, so advertising it has got to be a good thing.

I have been seeing a company by the name of "Liberty Tax Service" using this approach,...they have someone dressed in a "Statue Of Liberty" costume waving and promoting with signs. And they have more than one 'costumed" employee. I seen two yesterday in different locations. I wouldn't do it,..but it is a form of guerrilla marketing,..which is what door knocking and passing out flyer's is considered.
Clyde,..what you're doing is fine,..BUT,..I wouldn't use the sympathy angle,..when asked if you really need work,..I would just say you're doing some cheap marketing during slow periods. That will give a better sense of legitimacy to potential customers. Nearly every business has slow periods.
Jeff
Jeff I see liberty Tax do it to, We also have a clown here in Town which everyday he promotes different businesses doing the same.
Jeff, thanks for pointing that out, It's not my attention to play the sympathy angle, that's just the way it appears, thats what people thinK. Maybe I should start jumping up and down or something, or maybe. I will figure it out!
