Exploring the Roof Cleaning Business
Permalink

Greetings all.  I just joined the membership here, in the hopes of gaining from your collective wisdom about the roof cleaning business.  We wash houses, and as you all are aware, over 50% of them could use this service on their homes.  I will have several questions that I will post generally gain some response.  I want to thank everyone in advance for their help in teaching me this business!  First question(s):  Looking back on your success (or lack of success) in this business.... if you had it to do all over again.... would you?  What are the things you would have done differently?  Allow me to learn from your mistakes!

All the best

Hey Dan welcome aboard and good luck. The number one thing you have to know right away is " Roof cleaning is not hard "! From a difficulty from 1- 10 I would give it a 2!My experiance in roof cleaning is just shy of cleaning 500 roofs, and thats nothing to some of the " Big Guys" on here. But with that number of cleaned roofs I sure have come across pretty much every situation on asphalt shingles, slate roofs and customers. So your first question " would I do it over again " absolutely, but for several reasons. But for now I will keep it short, I would do it over again because it is pretty simple work that gives pretty much instant results with a very good profit margin. Second thing is start out as cheap as you can but as safley as you can, this way you can always upgrade as needed. Don't worry and good luck!

I agree with starting small. As you make money re-invest some of it. Feel free to call anytime.

The hardest thing in roof cleaning is keeping things ALIVE and undamaged. I would have paid much more attention to how dangerous the chemicals were to surrounding surfaces when I first started and I would have invested in a respirator immediately to protect my health.

Just for your information and not to be negative, I believe theres another veteran member named "Squeaky Clean"  So if your going to make this your actual bus name it may not matter if your not in the same market but on the board you might want to set your self apart with a diff name.

Good luck anyway and glad your here

I don't think he ever became a premium member, but he used to post here once in a while.

Hi Phil,

Thank you for the advice and feedback!  Respirator, check.  By alive I am assuming you mean erosion free and in good working order? Things like o rings and truck beds probably don't do well with constant exposure?

Dan

I think he means bushes and grass, as that is half the battle. One guy sprays the roof and the other keeps the house and grounds wet.

That makes sense!  Let me ask you.... watering and "wetting down" the landscaping  around.... are you "sprinking" for lack of a better term the entire bush, or more concerned with getting water to the root source?  I am sure either technique would work, just wondering if one is more effective than the other?

Thanks for your input!

Dan

Dan, fix your signature as you are losing out on SEO for you website, if you have one.  You are watering the foliage of the landscaping so that you do not burn the leaves of the plants with the roof cleaning solution.
