Who ever has some SEO expertise, I have been doing some reading and think putting ads in the online internet classifieds could be bad to follow- Thumbtack requests to put a backlink to thier site, but I checked it after I did, and I think it  made my site look spammy or something, that I  have no clue what itwas, but I deleted it.

Any thoughts  on how or if this could hurt our SEO.

Here is the latest news reguarding BackPage.com on the internet

“Backpage.com respectfully declines the recent demand by a group of 21 state attorneys general that it close its adult classifieds website. Backpage.com is a legal business and operates its
website in accordance with all applicable laws. Censorship will not create public safety nor will it rid the world of exploitation” (Bangor Daily News, 2010).

Could linking to this by putting ads here or other places like thumbtack/Craigslist etc. cause issues ?
