How do you spray roofs?

Top to bottom or bottom to top?

I've been spraying top to bottom and letting the solution work it's way down the roof, I make sure everywhere gets covered but sometimes it's covered by solution that is running down the roof.

Or should I spray from bottom to top?

I had some nasty mold that turned white, but is still hanging on that roof, it's been 3 weeks. I'm wondering if my technique is a factor.

Top to bottom. Are you sure it was Gloeocaspa Magma and not Lichen? Gloeo will turn a light brown and will wash off during a good rain but Lichen will turn white and take a while to dry up and fall off. There have been a few threads here that some members have had to treat serious instances of lichen and moss twice.

Ya GM is black. Moss is green. Lichen looks like a flower. This is moss, it's dead, I just need it to release from the shingle.

Or when I see moss, I need to increase the price for a second applications. This moss is tough, it's rained here since I have sprayed but haven't had a real hard rain yet. Could be the falling temps?

It may take a few months but is the best way for it to decompose and break apart naturally to keep the granules intact.

Ya I know. Patience and trust the love. I was just hoping to have some good before and after pictures.
Speaking of before and after pics. I know you were talking a lot about cameras.
Black friday walmart has a kodak 15mp 3 or 5x zoom.

If the moss has turned solid white { like a cottage cheese look } there is no need for a second application. If the moss is protected from direct rain fall it may take some time to come off, stand firm if the customer calls, insure them that this is the best process and that you stand behind your work...no worries!

Top Down but always wondered if that was right.  Works well and I agree with trusting your mix.  You do have to explain to the customers about the little bit of brown left up there.  The rain will clean it up.

From the furthest point from the ladder BACK TO the ladder

Had a guy paint a basement floor from the stairs to the back wall and we all stood there asking him how he was planning to get out.

I also use your method, Maverick. I may also spray a light coat along the gutter line first, if the algae is really bad. Then top down, wind at your back if possible.

I would think it's better to spray bottom to top. I normally have to wait for the ground guy and use the top as filler till he's ready for me to spray low.

I was just discussing this yesterday. I prefer to spray down, my help likes spraying up. I think spraying down uses less, he thinks his way keeps stronger mix hitting constantly. I let him spray his way because he does a great job and I have no worries when he's finished.

So there is no right or wrong way, I guess its the cleaners preference.

** I did however learn why that moss wouldn't come off. Yesterday, I took a light brush to a piece of moss that hard turned white. It rolled off the roof, and made a sound when it hit the ground. I picked up the moss, it was HEAVY. What I believe to be happening is the moss is never drying out, and the rain hasn't been strong enough to knock it off. In the spring or summer, when the moss can completely dry out, I think the rain will remove it fairly easily.

I guess we all were worried in the beginning, but dont give it a second thought once your done. It will come off wet or not just put it out of your mind. I have customers calling me two weeks later even after telling them it could take six to eight weeks looking for me to " RE-SPRAY " You got to " TALK EM DOWN, REAL EASY LIKE " Has your moss been dead that long? What I spray in November and this the first year into December will look beautiful when I drive by in March, no worries!

Moss has been dead a month. But temps have never been over 65 for the moss to dry out.

I spray from top to bottom, but I was thinking that since everyone says to spray siding from bottom to top, then why not spray a roof the same way?
