This is a scare tactic for her as well as a control issue. I think you are right to send her a certified check as Kim suggests. There is nothing she can do to you as you haven't done anything for her yet. What will she gain by taking you to court? Any decent judge will read her the riot act for wasting the courts time. In all my years I have only walked off of one job. The husband and wife were both attorneys...

Phil he needs to give her the deposit back and renegotiate in the spring is she still wants the work done, But Mike does not want to work for her anymore. She is bullying him in to performance of the contract.... if there was one?? ( or technically sue to perform )
