Zinc strips revisted

What type of roof is it? I don't think I would glue anything on anyones roof. Correct me if I am wrong, I thought I read the proper instalation of Zinc strips is they dont just sit up at the top but all over the roof every couple of feet. I think I read it would look like reflectors all over your roof.

yeah clean the roof and pass on the zinc strips. They do not work and look like hell when put on the roof

If he really wants it it is his choice. More money for you!!!! Tell him you give no warranty of it working. That it is what he wants.

If a customer demanded that I sprinkle fairy dust on his land to keep away evil spirits I would do it. Then again if he wanted me to clean his deck with SH and seal it with Thompsons water seal I would tell him to go f himself.

Really? You really think that this one person who is demanding something to be done is going to make the slightest difference with your business? Get real Mike. Some times I think you guys need to be slapped! You over analyze way to much. Do you think that this person that demanded you apply something against your wishes is going to complain to people when his idea f'd up? If you weren't so far away I would slap you into reality. You are definitely over thinking this.

They don't work!!! Here's a few pics you guys can use if you need them. Look at the algae on top of the zinc strip.

lol, just my opinion, besides the only thing that would ruin my reputation more than putting a useless piece of metal on a roof is getting slapped by a pink elephant!!!

Damn, this pink elephant is going to haunt me.

P.S. It does actually work some what. I just don't think it is the save all that he thinks it is. This is the case of a home owner having access to the internet..lol

Wow... thanks for all the great responses! Thanks for the pics Chris. I will send some more info to this guy. He gave me two more in his neighborhood so I feel like I should either prove to him they don't work or put them on. I hope he pays attention to the pics and a few things you guys wrote.

When I email him I'll leave out out elephants slapping people and sprinkling fairy dust.

Would a cleaning every four to five years be more expensive than the strips? Maybe that's one way to sell, or unsell this problem.

Asphalt shingles about 10 years old.

Fairy dust is a better alternative to what Pinky could be sprinkling.

I tried that when I looked at the job Ray. I even offered a maintenance package. I gave him two choices. A better deal (cheaper price) to clean every 2 - 3 years or I swing by once a year for a light coat.

It will be interesting to see what he does.

I've seen zinc strips installed here in Texas two different ways. One just like the Chris's photo and other applications where they put the strips every 15 - 20 rows down the slope of the roof. Neither of the methods work and they are unsightly. They might impede the growth of the algae for 5 or 6 rows but thats about it. My advice is to steer him away from the strips. Your options for a maintenance package are the way to go.

zinc strips work wonders! The only problem is that they only work in the immediate area(s) 4-5 feet on either side, and then the rest of the roof looks horrible once the algae recurs. Pass on this, and don't think twice.
