Ashfault shingle lift

I am looking at a 19 year old ashfault shingle roof and the shingles are stating to lift between each other due to moss and lichen, if I clean this roof will the shingle settle down flat or will it stay lifted allowing water to get under and eventually having a leaky roof?

Nick we all have seen that situation. I find that the shingle does go flat again in time.

do you think coming into winter that the rain and wind will get up and under the shingle, and also would you think it would take hot summer weather to heat up the shingle so it would flatten out?

The shingles beeing raised is a concern, esp. to the insurance companys. They don't want a big wind to come by and take off some bundles. They are raised anyway, clean them and hope some nice sunny weather gets them back down.

yeah asphalt that is the title to the thread. Shingle lift especially if moss gets underneath them. You must be very carefull how you treat them.

When up on a roof either painting or whatever, I tack 'em down with a tube of BlackJack or the like of roofing tar. May be a good idea to do before spraying the roof so as not to get water/love under the shingles. Have a house that has just this issue that I just secured work on.

all the shigles are curling on the corners and lifting, i dont think I can do anything with them, it like each shingle is cupped and will hold a bit of water on a rancher that does not have a steep roof

No. You want the cleaner to get under to remove all the algae that is under there. Plus he said the moss is under causing them to lift. You are telling him to seal them down on top of that mess. I don't think so!  JMOH

Need a pic to give you beter help now you are talking cupping of the shingles, Is my understanding of cupping the same as yours, pics please! Temps dipped like crazzy here in DC area. Warm temps is what you need for the shingle to flatten out after the moss has rinsed away. Here I wouldnt worry about it yet, not fammilliar with your temps.

EDIT: when shingles have endured the black staining, next of course is the moss and lichen. Next is rounding of the corners of the shingles.

Pinky (Dave) I thought of that, cleaning them then tacking down.  Good way of dealing with the situation. Your right, clean then fix cupped shingles with tar.

Cupping shingles and Canada could mean Organic Shingles as opposed to Fiberglass Shingles. Do you have any photos? If the curling is due to the lichen and you can remove they without damaging the shingles, then the shingles should relax with some warm temps IF they are Fiberglass, Organic shingles probably won't relax. In high wind areas you can put a couple of nickel size dabs of sealant (plastic roof cement or urethane) under each shingle. Nonetheless the roof shouldn't leak due to the lifted shingles if the slope is 5/12 or greater.
