well i would start with - How much do you need to make per day to make a profit and pay for material and labor. You asking me (new jersey) to price out where you are at would not make any sense. You need to figure out your priceline plus overhead for your market. Good Luck and Do yourself a favor and become a premium member, maybe you would get a better answer.Remember a $100 is a small price to pay for the knowledge you recieved here.

how do you go about pricing a block of 12 single family homes tile roof all around 2500 - 3000 sq ft
Hi Simon.
1st, what Mike in Jersey said. Then:
In Naples, you should get about .24 to .28 cents a sq ft-under roof , don't be fooled by what most people tell you the square foot of the house is-they mean "UNDER AIR" the roof covers everything!
+
Depending on how the roof is structured -2 flat sides or 4 flat sides and 4 dormer roofs etc - you might be looking at using 1/3 more mix and 1/3 more time or more!
Here are 2 example pictures of what I mean. I know you are from Northern England, so instead of roof structure names, these pictures will show you what I mean.

Sounds reasonable Chuck, just hope it stays that way, and doesn't give guys the idea of where your at so then can underbid you. But being many guys price shop you anyways with fake estimate calls.
Yes I was speaking about 3,500 square feet of roof space Roof space is hard to bid. You can't do it over the phone, so you have to drive to each job. Most homeowners call me and say "I have a 2000 sq ft home, about how much is it to clean my shingled roof?" I usually find out they mean "under air" I doubt even one would know the actual sq footage of roofing they have? not floor square footage and yes I was speaking about shingle roofs. In Florida if you can get 14 cents a foot for shingle you are doing pretty well. Shingles .14 I agree.
In fact the System was so efficient that it was not uncommon for us to treat upwards of 20,000 square feet of shingle roof in one day if it were an apartment complex or such. Ya, I made $8800.00 in 7 days work on an apartment complex once.
In the hey day we would go on ELK runs and do 5 roofs down I-95 spend the night, cross the alley and do another 5 roofs up I-75 in two days travel and all. Commonly those two day warranty claim trips would net in excess of $4,000.00
Our residential trucks averaged with stoppages, weather, poor quotes and all in a 50 week year $5,000.00 week in and week out. That was $250,000.00 per year, per truck and after all expenses had a 20% profit. It was common for a 4 truck residential division to flirt with $1,000,000.00 in production in a single year.
I think I would get roses thrown at me if we could get every pro on here averaging 5k a week for every week they work throughout the year. What about you have you hit the 5k a week / truck for every week worked yet? I do hope you have and if not your getting close. I have had a lot of $5000 weeks + one $8800.00 week in the last 22 years here in Florida, between my 2 trucks!! But far from weekly! I might get a few $5000.00 weeks a year? I had reached a point in business, where I had 5 guys working for me + me and that was more than I cared to deal with.
Since 1994 I have had a father and son only business and I prefer less $$$ and less frustration! Plus, my profit margin runs closer to 40%
Attached is the production for the last 3.5 years I was involved with the residential business. This was for one branch, the Orlando Branch. We still had Tampa and Delray part of that time. Just for some inspiration. Clearly, you are made for running businesses in a large way. I have no desire for that. I like simple.
As you said, that was "in the hay day" I doubt what you accomplished then, could be accomplished again now?
AC Chuck
