 Mostly, there are some residual chemicals, but Salt (Sodium Chloride) is the main culprit.

I am not sure that Vitamin C will neutralize salt,  but next time McDonalds over salts my fries, I will sprinkle on some Vitamin C, and let u know

 I understand what your saying Chris and my question would be how long before the SH breaks down completely. I know chlorine from the manufactoring plants start to breakdown immediatly, but when the mix hits the roof it must have to degrade over x amount of time and certain conditions factored in.

So take for instance Dan sprayed the roof left the mix on for say 2 days and then it rained an average 11/2 hour rainfall that night of day 2. Would that be the worst possible scenario for plant damage or would you say it would be neutral the next day or at the end of the job?

If so then a absorbant hazmat sock or "diaper??" could be used as a filter?

Watering is standard in Florida but arborvotae and some northern plants excessive watering is just as bad as the solution dischargd.

 Salt NEVER Degrades Kim, and that is the problem. True, when the mix dries Salt is left, and the wind will eventually scatter some of it. The stronger you make your solution, the more salt it has in it, and the more potential for plant death.

The Chlorine is greatly weakened once it battles the organic matter (algae), it is the salt that is doing this.  This house that Dan did has all run off leading to the Tree!

Look at the front, when the chit comes down from the top story onto the first, it will run right into the tree roots !

Plus, all the chit from the right side of the house follows the slope of the ground, right TO the tree and it's roots.

Had Dan got a longer, harder rain, he may have been ok ?

Because you just doubled the salt content!!

I wonder if that wasn't part of Dan's problem?

What you said about the rain....  so true, we love it when it rains hard, helps me sleep good.  We had a big storm the other day that brought 3 inches in hours.  Goodbye salt, lichen and worries!

 Old is old when it stops cleaning. If the mix once cleaned, but it will no longer clean very well, chit can it, start over with fresh mix.

I have been doing this for awhile now, And i know ive done over 500 roofs, And out of all of them i only killed a bush one time. But this is crazy.! A whole tree??? if you look at the pic you can see that the little roof over the window has no gutters all of the chem was all over the bushes but yet they are fine. & i did not even spray the right side of house. could it have been windy? (we had it wet) there is a gutter behind the tree maybe a light rain and it drained into the root system? there was some dead grass behind it. I have never had this happen before is this some kind of fluke???

The only thing I can picture that would do that, is a downspout dumping into the roots?

I have never had anything quite like that in my 22 years of roof cleaning!

I hope you don't end up having to pay for that big tree!!
