ordered mine in march/april and they were backordered so Bob sent me the PT version which is identical according to him ... just wondering if any of you guys experienced problems with it. mine has caused trouble from the get go, and i finally ditched it and called Lorii ... sent her pics of my trailer and i'm starting from scratch. this certainly isn't intended to bad mouth bob or pt as he's been exceptionally courteous and professional, just wondering if any of you guys had similar issues ... also got a hold of don at brainerd, so this friday i'll have ammonyx m and a new roof pump set up ... can't wait.

It has never made sense to me to keep the pump in a hot black box in the middle of the summer.

Never had that set up but I have heard of nothing but problems with it. I agree with Hoover , it can't be good for it in a hot black box all day.

Mine worked great for over a year, and LOTS of roofs.  I think it only recently gave me trouble due to corroded butt connectors which I'll troubleshoot one of these days.

The 'box' is to protect it from SH, from bumps and bangs etc.  The key is not to leave 'the box' baking in the sun all day while the pump is running.  Mine is in a shaded location (in a cabinet of my fiber-body bed) and mounted vertically.  The external, UPGRADED relay makes perfect sense as does the 12v muffin fan.  The challenges with these pumps is heat disappation due to the coils heating on start and stop of the motor - what better way than to have a fan running on it constantly?  Especially a low current fan?

To each his own I guess.  If/when I order another Fat boy, it'll be a 'box' version from Bob.

I'm really diggin' my Pentaflex now though...

yeah i've heard nothing but great things about the pentaflex, sounds like the way to go ... i'm not sure what the problem is as baking in the sun wasn't really the issue ... i'm sure bob will take care of it, he's always great with customer service

Have him trade it out for a Pentaflex. Same price and they are awesome. Both of my trucks have them on there and the guys love them.

Is the Pentaflex sold at Pressure Tek? Are they adjustable?

Bob sells the pentaflex. Don't know if it's adjustable.  I mounted mine in a homer (the home depot tool box).  It's safe from the rain and getting banged around.  Makes an excellent portable set-up.

My pentaflex was used in the back of my truck for two days.  It was sitting on a black plastic bedliner and it worked perfectly in 90-95 degree weather.  I didn't think of the hardship I was putting it through until I read this thread.  Tomorrow morning, I'll give it a bonus, 'cause it did not complain or malfunction.

i'm leaning towards your advice, have yet to hear a complaint about the pentaflex and i'm not trying to reinvent the wheel

What's with all this bumping and banging around. Where on earth did you guys keep yours untill you got the little black box? Mine is screwed on to the cage of my big tank230 Gal. tank. Where it can enjoy the days breeze and the evening rains. I swear every time I look at it it is smiling at me. Of course I could be having acid flashbacks from the 70's. OOOoo what a great decade....

I have my set-up portable.  I normally clean roofs once or twice a week, so my equipment is always going in and out of the truck.  Before I boxed it the wires were everywhere and always coming loose.

I wouldn't recommend keeping the lid on when your using the pump. Even though it has a fan in the box, it's just pushing that hot air around. The pump heats up pretty quick during the summer and it can't cool down if it's sealed up in a black battery box.
