Needed something to reach that dead algae at the peak

I got so sick of trying to rinse off the dead algea at the peak of the roof. I had to come up with something that would make it easier. I made this up, tried it a few times now, works great for getting the dead algea off the peak of the roof.

Great job making your own " pitch witch " but why are you blasting lichen off anyway?

Clever, but I would say its not necessary. If your rinsing every job, 3-4 roofs/day, at least a half hour added. Id rather be home by 4.

Great idea. LOL Serves the purpose.

I rinse all the time. Then again I don't use surfactant either. Different stokes for different folks. biggrin

Bottom line is I deposit in the bank every week. Whatever works I am good to go.

Bruce I used to rinse for two years....I am glad I don't any longer. I would stand around about 40 mins or so then rinse, add another 40 mins on avereage to that for rinsing.I have to say in the past when rinsing I did have to retreat roofs, since I stopped rinsing I have not returned to any home. I think the jobs come out better in the long run and time saved is also a deposit in my pocket. I would really re think the rinsing..........

I thought under 50 point standards section 3 number 25 all members pledge to use appropriate surfactants?

I needed this because I have some roofs up here where the lichen is not letting go. It is dying, but being at the peak it is not getting a flow of water when it rains. SO, I am having to go back a second time on these jobs. I would rather make sure it's clean the first time. So, if it takes a little longer when I am there , that is batter than going back a second day.

Dave, How long did you tell the customer it would take before the lichen is off the roof? I tell them to be patient, sometimes 2-3 months if they have it bad enough. I explain to them, that you will do more harm to the roof by rinsing, scraping or trying to blast off the lichen with high pressure. I think if they know ahead of time it's going to take awhile to come off, they are OK with it.

When you guys talk about not rinsing, are you strictly referring to asphalt shingle roofs?, tile?

I tell all of my customers that it could take 8-12 weeks to come clean. But, some of them call me after 4 weeks saying it's not clean yet. To keep the customer happy, I figure out when I am going to be in their area, and swing by and do a quick rinse of the area with the moss. I do not use pressure on it, I hook my new tool up to my pump, and run water from my fresh water tank. Or, I hook it up to their hose, and rinse. Most of the time it takes about 30 minutes from pulling in the driveway, to pulling out. I try to do what ever I can to keep happy customers. As long as it's not costing me..... A happy customer talks to his neighbors.

I used to rinse roofs with the garden hose. Dont any more. Before that I used to use shingle shield and a PWer. For me, not rinsing is the way to go. But thats just me.

I agree, not rinsing is the way to go. 90% of the time that's what I do. Just some of the homeowners don't like to wait. And, when I do a house that is for sale, I do rinse it it has moss or lichen. I like to get the a clean roof right away.

We found that rinsing takes granules off with the just killed moss and lichen, give it more time to dry up and fall away is better for the roof.
