I've been working hard to learn how to clean and seal wood, and this was one of my first projects. It was small, but fun to work on. I stripped the previous sealer with F18 and brightened with Oxalic Acid. After the rain finally gave us a break, I sealed it with Med. Brown Ready Seal.
I didn't get a before shot because the day I was cleaning, it started to rain and threw the picture off.
I like it, but I will be using Sodium Hydroxide from my chem supplier from now on. F18 is a nice product, just seems to be pretty expensive for my needs.

Looks great Phil. Don't spill it in your tool box and then let it get wet. It will eat a hole right through it. Ask me how I know that....lol Actually it was liquid Potash that did that but I am sure the same would happen.

Just a word of caution , by stripping a deck vs cleaning a deck , and then staining a deck you just entered the jurisdiction of the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. If you screw up and the customer complains you stand to lose a lot . They are state employees who have nothing better to do . They can file criminal charges , fines , basiclly make your life miserable . If you plan to do more staining and sealing of decks get the license . Once you have it you can do a whole lot more than roof cleaning .
I just cleaned a fence today, came out great except there seemed to be a lot furring. Will it wear off? Do I need to wash it again? Can I stain over it?
Thanks, guys. Tom, you will need to sand it a bit, but it doesn't take much at all, just a few swipes.
ShinglesMD, I'm very aware of the MHIC license, but haven't made any decisions on getting it or not. I wanted to see if I liked sealing wood before spending the time and money on the MHIC license. In the mean time, we've teamed up with my father in law who was a painter and has a current MHIC license for an electrical business that he owns. He's not doing the work, but he is there giving me tips and taking the risk until I decide on whether I'll go that route, or not.
