I used what ever swivels Lori sent it to me with.

Yes Chris, better flow and pressure, for sure! We had no idea how much the hose reels hurt us, until out of sheer desperation, we did away with them. The increase in pump performance is quite noticable.

I just installed my new reel, but I already had a lead from the new poly swivel, dangit. I put more gunk on it and tightened the living crap out of it and it stopped. Once this reel goes, I'm with Apple Roof Cleaning.. Ladies like a guy with big forearms anyway! :) (Talking about my wife).

That's not a good sign. Just got my correct jump hose to go to the Titan hose reel with a poly swivel. Hoping not to have to many problems with it, they are not cheap!

Let us know how the poly swivels work out. If they do not, then use a 1/2" SS quick disconnect by Hansen.

Hey Marcus,..I hear ya' on the quick connects,..I posted that information years ago on the Grime Scene,..and I still use it to this day myself. I could never figure out why the manufacturers make these hose reel swivels so co complicated,..and expensive. The quick connects don't need to be uncoupled to wind and unwind.

I agree with Chris,..all those connections can be a worry,..and wondering when they're gonna give up. I do maintenance instead of repair,...I'm not sure what I will do the next time,...I don't like the idea of handling 200' feet of hose,..but like I said,..50' sections aren't bad. Although that still puts more connections and possible leaks,..couplers can be easily maintained or changed as needed. When the hose reel needs repaired,..it needs tore apart to do the task.

Years ago when I was using garden hose,.I was using 50 footers coupling them with cam locks,..always seemed to work.

I think the main reason I hve yet to switch to sections is simple,..I'm just about out of room,Ha,Ha....200' of hose takes up less apace on a reel.

We shall see!!

Chet,..the hypo will eventually cause it to leak,..PERIOD!!

Also,..Chances are you probably do a small fraction of the roofs that Apple does,..and throw in tile strength mix,..which I'm sure you don't do,..so you using a hose reel is fine,..but don't make out like Chris is going backward by ridding himself of hose reels. His situation with longeveity is much more amplified than yours.

Have you though about running one 100 footer and 2 50 footers that way you still have the hose sizes you like. most of time I use about 150 feet but I will go with 200 or 250 to be on the safe side clean roof or house.

Cam Locks are great! Remember, the longer your hose is, the more pressure and flow loss you will have.

I had a guy up north using 250 feet of 5/8 hose on a reel. He lacked about 5 to 10 feet of shooting distance, and was all ready to spend 1500.00 on a Udor Pump!

I told him to buy 100 feet of 3/4 hose instead to use as a 'shoot hose'. It worked, and save him from buying a new pump! The bigger and shorter your hose is, the better it will shoot and the better it will spray. Jeff's idea of using 50 ft sections of hose has considerable merit. Especially for guys up North that have 2 and 3 story homes with steep roofs to do that must be shot from a ladder. Most people have no idea of the penalty they pay in pump performance for carrying and using a full 250 feet of hose!

Look guys, this is not pressure washing where we have 3500 PSI to piss away.

currently I am using a metal garden hose reel with wheels I have it reverse coiled so i get to the job and take my reel off the trailer and walk it out never using the manifold

It is merely a hose storage device then! Hoses always spray best uncoiled. We may do the same thing, but just to store our hose neatly. I don't want ANY added connections between the hose and pump. Both of my once beautiful flatbed roof cleaning trucks are literally rolling rust buckets because of POS Hose Reels. We have been running w/o hose reels for months now, and we will never look back! Leaks are FATAL in the roof cleaning game people, do not just assume you can just rinse it off, and it will be fine.

Unless you want a rust bucket, you must PREVENT leaks before they happen. The way you prevent leaks is to eliminate ANY possible, un necessary source that can cause them.

Hose Reels are not necessary, you just have been brainwashed into thinking they are.

Hey, I was too, but nearly 3 months of doing w/o them has convinced me otherwise.

Besides leaks, Hose Reels rob performance by the very coiling up of the hose, and most hose reels have small diameter manifolds that ROB pressure and flow.

Besides rusting out my truck beds, the leaks from Hose Reels have ruined 2 rigid air compressors, the tanks are all rusted and not repairable.

Yep kind like a Hose Caddy a bit easier than draging out the hose and coiling it up when you are done I just walk with the "caddy" out to the furthest spot I am going to work from and when I am all done reel it in at the trailer Keeps it nice and neat

I never use a hose reel. After reading about all the headaches with them on here when I was starting, I decided to not use them. I have 2 hose holders mounted on the back of my trailer, each one holds 100' of hose. When I get to the job, I pull the hose off the holder, uncoil it on the ground, hook up to the pump and ready to go. It's a little slower picking up at the end, but never have had a problem with a hose reel.

Ill get some pix. I use a 1/2"SS swivel that I got from my supplier.

@Jeff I'm not bashing anyone for what they want to do. I have mine unrolled at least twice a day but hey this thread is about a guy that is getting away from them. Everybody has their thing!

Buddy of mine got pissed at his reels and trashed them too. Took old electric cable reels and is now using them as hose storage. Welded a rod horizontally to The ladder rack and put the wooden spool on there. Easy, cheap, and functional.

Another friend refuses torun anything though his reels anymore. Only uses them for storage between jobs. Each time he unreels the whole hose and hooks up direct to the pump.

That's a good idea with the cable reels! Since the Titan Reels are already on my trucks, we may just use them for hose storage only.
