OK,I went & got some different tips to try plus some 3 gallon rubber maid containers ($4 each),they're pretty flat, & some of those plastic corrugated gutter extenders. It's time for some experimenting.

I use garbage bags from Costco with the 'built in' red draw straps.  Those straps are fairly tough for plastic and allow me to tie them quite tight.  I ALWAYS place the bags in a 5 gallon bucket before carryng them anywhere though.

Someone mentioned Talon.  I tried it for the first time this week, and it was impressive.  The shipping costs make it a bit spendy though, so I'll only use it on the very steep roofs when necessary.  One of these days I'll try to find a local supplier.

Mr. Uglly Shingles, may I ask what you are using to make your misture white? I am using, on a 100 gallon tank 34 gal of Chlorine, 66 gal of H2O, and 50 oz of Simple Cherry. It cleans good but it runs off to fast on a 12/12 pitch and I end up with too much waste. Thanks for your advice. Don

Don,

We use SH and Ammonyx lo and if we have it on the truck we will mix in some arm & hammer laundry detergent for smell and sticking power...

You need to sign in to open a pdf file.

This thread started on the free open side so I pdf'ed the pictures to keep the lurkers from seeing them.  I have had a few people tell me they could not open them, now that it is on the paid side I am re-posting them as pictures.

So your walkin backward down the slop towards the edge??

Look at the picture I posted (above) you can see we go from the top down walking forwards stopping 2 foot from the edge...

Sorry Dave I still like your idea about using tent straps to hold the bags on biggrin

You guys up north clean mostly shingle roofs. Down in south Florida the majority of roofs (that people will actually pay to clean) ate tile roofs. You can't walk from top down cleaning because you won't get all the faces of the tiles. Unless I'm missing something?? I don't like walking tile roofs to clean but end doing so anyway because it just seems quicker. I normally start at the top and walk forward side to side and then move down and do it again. Spraying from a ladder doesn't seem to work real good when cleaning barrel tile. You are always getting down to move the ladder a couple feet. Unless you just flood the roof but most don't have gutters and I don't want to risk killing all the landscaping. If there is a better way, I would love to know. Jon

I always go from top to bottom. It's easier to keep track of how much runoff is occuring and to spread that runoff into dry areas, rather than let is run in a stream down off the roof.

I too prefer being on the roof, but don't recall having a problem getting a roof to clean from a ladder. It's much harder to control runoff though-because you are spraying more than the usual amount of mix to hit harder to reach spots etc.

Chuck

Hey Ugly, I didn't think you were suppose to mix the Oxy Clean stuff with SH. Doesn't it have a weird reaction? I thought i read somewhere saying they don't combine nicely. If not, how well does it help with the smell? Jon

Thanks Ugly. I will have to give it a try. I have tried the apple mango tango (it is fun to say!) before and didn't think it worked that great. I even put like 4 or 5 capfuls in 100 gal mix, it smelt great mixing in the tank but didn't notice it covering the smell on the ground. But then again, at the end of the first job, I can't normally smell it on the ground after spraying. Jon
