I was actually at verizon getting a new phone because the lock button wont work on mine and I was telling the lady how I keep dialing people on accident. Guess I did it then too!!
Been using a mix of those heavy rubber bungees for our 20ft ladder and the lighter weight ones for the 6ft step. They usually last a year or longer. Keep an eye out on the road. Invariably you see them lying at intersections.
I chain and lock mine down after every job, I would feel horrible if they fell off and hurt anyone. So I will take the time to unlock them....rather be safe then extremely sorry.

I've been carrying ladders for 34 years. I've used just about everything mentioned here and always end up back with "bungees" as they come out with new and improved. The black rubber with the steel hooks can be deadly! I have a set I found at HD that are adjustable and lock in place so you don't have to figure out what to do with all the access. So far so good and have held up well through two winters.

Bungie cords for 6 years, had one come loose once and the hook got me in the forehead. I was lucky, Bled for 5 minutes infront of the HO house, they werent home, Thank God!!! After every job they are locked back up, so I dont forget to lock them up at end of day. If it aint locked up chained up or in the locked shed at night stuff grows legs and walks away!
Marcus,..if I wasn't using chains that would probably be what I'd use as well,..good idea. Nice and simple,..just the the way I like things,...because I'm A SIMPLE MINDED PERSON,..Ha,Ha..
Jeff have you seen the straps that Home Depot sales the ones with big clip one end and a velcro strap on the other end that is what I use to hold few more hoses when needed. Those things hold up great to a lot weight.
