Who wants to be a MODERATOR?

During the meeting on talkshoe last night, it was decided by all present to change/add/delete the current moderator positions. There has been numerous problems with the old set-up/positions.

A new position of "Board/forum Administrator" was created and Bruce Sullivan has volunteered to fill this position. A team of 6 Moderators will be chosen Tuesday Night on a special talkshoe call. Use the link for Sunday night to access the call at 8:00 P.M.

Anyone having a desire to fill a moderator position, please send me a PM or post your name here. If you are currently a moderator and wish to continue as one, please also post here or send me a PM. Candidates will be chosen by Chris Tucker, along with assistance from members attending the meeting.

Time requirements vary for these positions, depending on how members act and re-act to topics on the forum, but on average will require 3-6 hours per week. Please consider this when making your decision. Below are the requirements for being a moderator.

RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR RCIA MODERATORS

As a chosen and appointed moderator for RCIA, you will be expected and required to obey and enforce the following rules pertaining to conduct and posting of subject matter on various topics and discussions within the  boundaries of the RCIA forum(s) to which you have been assigned. Please conduct your decisions with professionalism and complete fairness.

1.       All members will refrain from posting subject matter that is demeaning, degrading, and/or derogatory towards any/all members of RCIA. All such posted material will be removed/deleted by the moderator assigned to that topic area, and the offender will be notified by PM/Email of the action and a warning will be issued to cease such activity. Additional future violations may warrant a suspension of posting rights for a period of time.  Any additional violations will be presented to the  RCIA sentinel  for escalation to the Executive board for a decision on actions warranted. The Executive board decisions will stand as “FINAL”.

2.       As a chosen and appointed moderator for RCIA, your ability and desire to assist and help other members achieve the goals they desire through membership in RCIA and participation in the roof cleaning industry will be paramount to the success of the member and our organization in the future. By sharing and demonstrating the professional skills and knowledge you have developed, you will assist RCIA in the development and writing of the “Standards for the Industry”. Patience and compassion will be necessary when dealing with new members seeking knowledge and guidance.

3.       All chosen and appointed moderators will be expected to attend and participate in any conference calls/meetings that are scheduled. Items to be discussed will be posted in the moderators forum prior to the meetings so that proper preparation can be completed and discussions can be productive. Any suggestions arising from these meetings will be escalated to the Executive board for consideration.

4.       Prior to the deletion of any offending post or topic material, it is highly recommended that the moderator in charge of that subject area confer with at least one additional moderator or Executive board member prior to any action being taken. This will ensure uniformity in deletion practices and ward off any future complaints from members.

5.       As a chosen and appointed moderator you may be selected to represent and assist other moderators/board members at conventions, trade shows and/or roundtables throughout the year. Expense monies will be provided on a “to be determined” scale depending on the location and travel required. It will benefit everyone for moderators to learn and practice in depth knowledge of the roof cleaning industry in order to be better qualified for selection in this regard to represent RCIA at these events. Knowledge and professionalism are key to this success.

Good question. I wasn't able to make the call until the tail end and don't know what qualifies one as moderator or even if there is any?

Hopefully all this can be ironed out in time for all to consider. I would have allowed one week for details, questions and candidates.

No offense Chad, but I'm thinkin' that the ideal candidate would be in his 50's or better. You really have to turn 60 to become wise, but at 50 you're fairly smart & well rounded. We've had some childish & immature moderators in the past & that's something that we shouldn't bother repeating. I'm not saying that you'd be that way, but IMHO older is better in this case.

I understand your opinion on being wiser with age, but both Josh and I being State licensed Paramedic/FireFighters we are not childish in our decisions. We are here to make a business and help RCIA grow and not play games with others.

And fyi, together we make 42yrs of life's wiseness *wink wink* lol

OK, if we can't get old people, let's at least get people with a sense of humor. I hereby nominate Chad, Josh, Aaron, David, & Tom. BTW Chad, I married a professional firefighter (it takes a strong woman to make me be good, but that's not for discussion here) so don't try to sell me on that basis. As long as y'all are impartial, fair, & nice that's what counts.

I'll throw my name in the hat.

As far as not leaving them as they are, Chris T discussed the whole thing on talk shoe Sunday night.

I use to be a moderator myself and if done right, all I can say is be careful what you wish for. LOL Not everyone will be happy.

Chris wants to get the forum back to it's purpose of training & certification. The open side is where the moderation will be needed mostly. That is the guests posting and using the forum for a free ride so to speak.

Whether everyone agrees or not, RCIA is a paid member forum now, which goes to support the forum. The open side can benefit members by posting their work and promoting their business for SEO benefit.

As to becoming a moderator, it is my understanding that anyone who is a preimum member and has 500 posts can put their name in the running. In the end to be an effective moderator, he or she needs to be active on the forum in order to moderate.

In MY opinion, moderating is not about deleting posts or trying to control what can be said. Moderating, more so on the open side, is to help keep the posts clean and on subject because the public can read everything posted there. That may well require, at times, moving a post to the shade or preimum side of the forum, once the parties invovled have been contacted and everyone comes to an understanding or maybe they just edit their post. Moderators should be viewed as mediators.

Just my two cents.

I'd be willing to put my name in the hat. I'm in front of a computer most of the day at my full time job and check the forum regularly.

I just saw this post...As far as me being a moderator, as long as Chris is good with leaving me in the position I'm in, I just as soon stay on.

_____________________________________________________________________

I hope you do not stay on as a moderator.  1st, it took you 12 hours to notice this post and it seems a moderator should be checking the board more often than that.  2nd, when AC posted my sensitive business information on the public side, not only did you NOT remove it, you attacked ME.  Matthew removed my post and when I asked why, the clock kept ticking with no response from any of the moderators.  The only exception was you telling me that my post was probably removed because I called AC a dumbass.  I still have not recieved a definitive answer.

You can call me any name you want and it won't hurt my fledgling business, but when you put my pricing information out for all the lurkers to see that does hurt it.  Now I ask you Larry, which is worse, calling someone a name or publishing their confidential business information?  Obviously it is the latter.  For the record, AC and I have publicly apologized to each other while you and Matthew were conspicuously silent.  I have no doubt that you are one hell of a roof cleaner Larry, but IMHO, you should not be a moderator.  no  This is not a personal attack, it is only my opinion.  If you doubt that, note the fact that I gave you a compliment.

By the way, when the suject of Moderators came up on Sunday night's Talkshoe, it was noted that Matthew had not visited the forum in 12 days.  IMHO that's not moderator behavior either.  Come to think of it, I join Talkshoe every Sunday & most Wednesdays and I don't recall you being there either.  The only moderator who shows up regularly is Ted Saunders.

You could argue that the people who actually bother to join in on the Talkshoes are the ones who really care about the RCIA.  I intend to vote for the people who do just that.
