 Scott that is very common practice down where I am at in FL.  Not specifically always using a bum, but somone holding the sign and waving. I have seen the bums do it for em though, just remember the bums probably really are not homeless. I seen a special on TV about that just the other night the usually make about 80- 150 bks a day begging. Not sure how that would work but I have thought about using that approach in the am when people are on the way to work stuck at the entrance leaving the nieghborhood or coming home from work.  Flyers and a sign....hmm

Need to find that local homless guy at Checkers, bought him lunch one day. Who knows??

Joe, try sending out post cards to homes that actually need your service.  This is very easy to do and pays off big time.  We do this and this is our best source of advertising.  We have a post card that describes our service here at Toledo Roof Cleaning, Toledo Ohio.  We don't use the throwing rock promotion.  We just don't agree with that method but I know alot of people use it.  Just be careful where you use this method.  And I agree repetition works.  We get calls from post cards we sent out last year.  Toledo Roof Cleaning www.NoMoreUglyRoofStains.com Ohio

Yes and like Scott said use a tape recorder.  Also, we use our local auditors website to look at houses.  Say you know of a development that has a house in it that's dirty, just type in the address and the website will show you a front picture of it and give owners name.  We sent out 100 last thursday and we have already landed 7 jobs and two more quotes to give today.  8% isn't bad.  Like I said people don't throw them away either because we track when we send them out and to who.  We are getting calls this year from ones we sent out last year.  Good Luck  Toledo Roof Cleaning, Cleaning roofs in Ohio and Michigan.
