Ok, I have had one of those days brainstorming to come up with ideas to get people to move on roof cleaning as a BIG value and get our prices.
So here is what I have come up with, any insurance or insurance warranty guys please give your input.
Ok so here is what I am thinking, insurance and or warranty companies will insure just about anything,
Why not offer an insurance/warranty policy to the customer that with every roof cleaning and or (service contract?) they will be guareenteed not to be replacing their roof in 10-15 years? / or 5-10 yrs ?
In Florida , I am under the impression that many HO assume they will have to replace the roof after 12-14 yrs anyways, so why clean it.
If I was able to offer a warrenty that after I cleaned with or (without a maintance plan ?) for the 15 yrs I can warranty or insure they will not have to pay to replace it.
Here is a case of such extraordinary insurance in PA, which is a great promo as well
I get it. It's like when a dealership gives away chances to win a car. They take out an insurance policy that in case someone wins, the policy buys the car-NOT the dealership. That's a little ahead of it's time for most places, but it would be a great selling point in a saturated market like, oh I don't know.....oh yeah Florida.
Well I guess if you ask your self how many times have you been asked to buy insurance on electronics at Best Buy, it is an insurance somewhat like that. But the other avenue would be similar to a home warranty, I know those are about $250 for a year home warranty, but if they were to warranty just the roof it may be cheaper. I am not sure like I said I have been looking at ways to give customers a piece of mind knowing they will not be paying for a roof cleaning and then in 3-5 yrs replace it anyway. Not sure why people are so hesitant to get the roofs cleaned, they just really do not realize it can be cleaned and actually keep from replacing it ahead of it's time. Not sure if it will be anything viable, will have to see. Kim R
Kim they do have roof warranties, they cost about $475 on average and that's for 2 years of coverage. The company I'm certified through is called moisture free. You can offer a 2,5, or 7 year warranty. I find most people don't want to pay for the warranty though on top off my inspection fees. It's something worth looking into though if you think it'll help you in your market. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message.
I just found them on the web, interesting , but doubtful customers would pay for that type of increase you are right on that that. Now to find out if any insuring agency's would carry that type of policy. Strike out on one!
I did find some interesting info from Moisture Free site, the different certifications from various inspection industry's, they are not cheap at all. I should post this in open side, RCIA is giving a heck of a deal

What are the prices on the 5 and 7? Two doesn't sound like a great incentive.
What if we took a different route? We could have RCIA and possibly other groups work together to push insurance companies into offering discounts on premiums for having roofs properly cleaned regularly, like every 3-5 years. It would probably be harder to do but might be worth it in the long run. It would eliminate our roof killing pressure hacks. If done right it would give homeowners a reason for using Certifeid roof cleaners and eliminate our lowballers too. Not saying would be easy, but definately some serious pros to it. The only negative result I see coming from it is a new interest in our industry from large companies that could run us out by doing volume. That might be inevitable later on anyways, hopefully not.

Kim:
Good thinking outside the box. Now that this industry is spreading across the country and not just the southeast, there is potential for this type of process, given the numbers of services could support such.
Keep us up to speed on any research you find. The concept holds merit. I have been asked a number of times by customers how long "this" cleaning will last. Bottom line, they want to know what is in it for them. The problem is, I cannot answer that honestly, as I don't know!
As a businessman, I would like nothing more to offer a warranty and be able to stand behind it. At the end of the day everyone wants a warranty or some form of coverage.
I agree this concept needs further networking/discussion. I can see where locations, climate, season changes etc. would need to be factored in.
Also, last summer was a very wet and humid summer here in Iowa and I have had a number of customers comment on how much their roof increased with " those black stains" because of such.
We talk about how we need to educate our customers about roof cleaning, more so, for us in the midwest. What we need to do is educate ourselves also as to how weather patterns etc. effect our service or does it?
Guys I'm a little concerned with getting the powers that be all caught up in this roof cleaning business. The more agencies and insurance companies snopin around the more regulations and fees will be levied against us. And we all no that that only hurts those that follow the rules therefore giving the non-insured or the CraigsListers another way to be even cheaper than us. I don't think you want the EPA slappin regs on you like they are doing to the painting industry. IMHO
