Phil, I always tell them ina joking manner that the price they got was if they didn't watch. If they watch the price is double. Even though I'm joking it gets the point across usually.
It's really a safety issue. One strong stray puff of wind and you have a HO with sauce in their eyes. I've had one person in six seasons actually sit and watch and that was after I told him my insurance would not allow any non staff to be in the yard during a cleaning. He moved his lawn chair and cooler to the street.
It's not an option for us. Our policy is, you come outside.....we stop.
not yet, but Im new to the buisness, Im sure ill turn down lots, people looking for miracles, you know, the roof needs to be replaced, not cleaned, you get up there walk on it, then all the sudden, you get a call saying they want to sue you, allways get a good feeling for your coustomer! if they seem shady, just say ill be back next year
Barry from Ohio......have you given any thought to becoming a premium member?
Sure....several times. I've actually signed up for a free account multiple times since 2008 and then forgot the login info.
I don't want to hijack this thread. I might post in the certification thread my position on what I see as potential con's of membership for my business. I know that might not seem possible but there are for my unique situation.
The smartest jobs are probably the ones you turn down.
As far as being watched, we had a guy get in his car on the street and start video taping us once. I had no clue what he was doing until my helper told me while we were finishing up. Strange bird but really a nice old guy.
I turn down jobs when I get way too over booked which always happens in the fall and spring, this year I got another rig and truck son! But I turned down a job this week because she just had her house painted 2 weeks ago and it would have been an extra $500.00 for the day, so I am doing it in 3 months...
Last week a lady called me from Sorrento, FL with a 4998 sqft arch shingle roof (Grey) and it was Nastier than Nasty, when I told her $699.72 she said wow that's way more that I want to spend so I did the 15% off senior deal which came to $594 and change and she said last time I had it done for $125.00 and I said how long ago 15 years, she said 3 years ago. I told her there is now way I would even do the front for $125.00 it would cost me more to do it so keep looking around, I referred Jerry at Mobile Wash who does roofs for 39.95 No Gimmicks! Since 1961 I don't know that guy personally but he has not raised his prices since then or maybe his ad since then.
