ROFLMAO!! Scott's "official" title is kool-aide drinker & HE mentions Jim Jones. I admit, I don't know him, but he usually doesn't post puns & such. Hilarious.
I was a little about the 100 posts deal myself only because I have been trying to read, read, read, and read some more. I am still in the process of getting my business off the ground with being insured, licensed and get me some marketing going. Oh, I have to get equipment too!!! I have to admit I have become addicted and read everyday multiple times a day and have learned a tremendous amount. I figure my posts will continue to grow and I will just add little bits when I can but I really have nothing to offer right now and I don't want to waste time with questions since I have become friends with the search button. The weather is becoming great here and I am pumped to get going. I find myself looking at roofs as I drive down the road everywhere I go now. It's amazing how many need work. I will ask one question......Is it worth me joining right now before I have even started doing any work yet?
You have an excellent attitude! You could be training people here right now on the use of "Search"
Like Mitch, who apparantly didn't search anything about our certification, just posted about it without gaining an understanding from searching through posts first. { Note the fine print }
I honestly believe that your joining now, is the best thing you can do to start your business! { I know you are new. Be assured, I have nothing to gain by suggesting that }
By being a "Premium" member, you will have access to all the information you could ever need to clean every type of roof there is!
"Search" is GREAT and you are going about this correctly!
However, in the $100 "Premium Member" side, don't be afraid to just flat out ask the important questions! We are ready to help you get started and keep on growing! I have over 20 years in this business and still continue to learn regularly! It was once said here, by someone?? "It's Not Rocket Science" and it's not, but new ideas and improved methods, do come up all the time!
Heck, there's even a guy here named Ron M who can teach you to scrape grease off of 165,000 sq ft roofs! { That's a joke-to a large extent? }
I look forward to seeing you do very well here and in your business.
Your brother roof cleaner,
Chuck

I can tell you yes become a premium member but it would be looked at in a biased way, so what I recommend is to call some of the newer premium members with a lower post count and ask them there take on it. Just like buying anything do some homework and investigate the pros and cons.

Thanks Chuck. I know you guys say it's not "Rocket Science" but my background is in sales and business. Heck, I even took quite a few years of Chemisty when I thought I wanted to be a pharmacist. That being said, the business side is what I am excited about and I love being outdoors plus the fact that you see instant results from your work. Being that I have zero background in any of this other than being in gutter sales, I do still have tons of questions. I am glad I was told to read in the beginning or I would have been asking why all the "LOVE" was being spread on this sight!! My wife is about sick of me talking about this every second of the day. She is very supportive but like I have said before, she worries I cannot make a living off of this. My thinking is the fact that I am unemployed is the perfect time for me to go after it. In the premium section are there things like sample estimate forms or things like that? I am pretty sure I am going to go ahead and join the premium. I mean, I have lost more than that gambling before and this at least gives me the opportunity to make money.

RCM: I appreciate the response... but you misunderstand my position. I'm not worried about the post count. I can and will go through the same process as you did. Even as most of what you posted is general chat, rehashed questions and social interaction with other roof cleaners. (Yes I reviewed your early posts). I'm not concerned if you know who I am, if you like me or if you agree with my position on subjects. It concerns me none that you feel as though I have given nothing back worth while to you.
As this is a growing business (IE: RCIA) it is in MY (IE: MY BUSINESSES) best interest to make sure that any certification that RCIA provides be recognized in the industry as a valid authority and that the RCIA Roof cleaner certification carry some wieght in the business world. Anyone can hand out a cert. But one that is earned because the training/testing met or exceeded industry standards is of significant value. Not because a gaggle of cleaners say its the best way in a forum. BTW: TV never lies... its always true.
I'll do the 100 posts....and I'll do them without junk jibberish clogging up the forum from my submittions. My concern isn't so much for me... it is for others who in the future may wish to join...be trained...and get certified. The POST requirement has no business in the certification model. Thats my position... Obviously others disagree... Thats cool... That's thier opinion... I just point out that I feel that it does not belong in the Certification process.
No offence Chris, I do understand the concept and goal behind the post rule... but it doesn't make sense as part of the cert process.. and your going to have to lose it someday anyway.
What is the goal of RCIA?
Training? Certification? Education? Marketing?
Is it the Forum? or to be the Lead Industry Authority?
What is it that RCIA trying to do?
RCIA going to hold classes? If I pay $350 to take a course in Shingle roof cleaning from one of the certified instructors... will I still be required to post to be certified?
Does RCIA plan to do controlled field testing and publish test results showing best practice methods and whatnot? Something to solidify its claim to being an Authority on roof cleaning?
I believe in the process, I believe this is the way to go...and I plan to walk this path as long and as far as it will go. But that means I'm banking MY business on RCIA to be recognized as the authoritative lead in the industry... if that doesn't stay true. Then my business (as its based on this model) will fail... and I just don't plan to let that happen without expressing my opinion.
Truth is.. MY SEO is my concern. It behoves me to post. But it should be my choice. $100 membership fee is exactly that, a membership fee. If I join the BBB, I'm not required to take advantage of thier offerings to have a file, its mine. And if I want a cert, its my obligation to persue it.
I hope I don't get too many people upset. I am sure I'm not the only one that looks at that rule as baggage without certifiable merit.
LOL.. Just hate to be me when it comes down to the verbal test phase of the certification process. I'm sure that whoever I get will be gunning for me now...LOL

as KIM said " If I remember correctly Chris T, made the 100 post count mandatory because he feels it is tied to a commitment to RCIA, it has nothing to do posting just to post like you said.
Forgive me if I'm wrong but you have no commitment to the Rcia, unless it is to take and not give back. accept it My Brother and give back a little.

You could help your cause by posting your signature Mitch, with your web site link and contact info ? It is too late at night to attempt to answer all your questions, but more will be revealed.
This is the first time i have ever posted on any forum and i totally agree we everything you have said so far. My only concern is that it is going to take me a lot longer to get certified because of religious convictions i will not be able to join in on the talkshoe calls. I agree that posting should not be part of the certification process.And yes i will be joining the premium member side soon.

Talkshoe is not any part of the requirement to become certified at all.
Talkshoe is a tool to verbally network with other members and guests about the many things posted about on here. But it has never been a requirement for certification. It just one big conference phone call.

This seems to be a common complaint that I hear about talkshoe and it may be costing you participatants. May want to think about changing the days you sinners.
That's a funny one! I like that!
Thing is, if you look into it, the sabbath day was not a Sunday. The Jews were told to rest on the 7th day. It was the sabbath on the seventh day, from sunset on Friday evening to sunset on Saturday evening. Saturday is our 7th day of the week, Friday was the 7th day on the Jews calander.
So, Sunday is nothing but Sunday.
Of course, on top of that, if you read what the sabbath day required, nobody keeps those requirements anymore. It was a law to Jews specifically anyway, not to Christians.
And there's Chuck's bible lesson for the day!
