You may not be trying to hide it but alot of people do, and theres just no reason to be cryptic about what we use.

I am afraid I have missed something here, I don't use bleach, I use chlorine/SH which is a component of bleach. It is what it is. What would I be hiding behind?
Bleach as your definition above describes is a blanket term meaning anything that lightens color. ever heard the term sun bleached?? So you are not using a component of Bleach you are using a form of bleach or a bleaching agent per say.
I explain this to customers that ask as well.

Sodium Hypochlorite is a greenish-yellow liquid commonly referred to as "Bleach." The chemical compound formula for Sodium Hypochlorite is NaOCl.
Sodium Hypochlorite is prepared by reacting dilute caustic soda solution with liquid or gaseous chlorine, accompanied by cooling.
Sodium Hypochlorite is the main ingredient in laundry bleach. It is used extensively as a bleaching agent in the textile, detergents, and paper and pulp industries. It is also used as an oxidizing agent for organic products. In the petrochemical industry, sodium hypochlorite is used in petroleum products refining. Large quantities are also used as a disinfectant in water and wastewater treatment and sanitary equipment. In food processing, sodium hypochlorite is used to sanitize food preparation equipment, in fruit and vegetable processing, mushroom production, hog, beef and poultry production, maple syrup production, and fish processing.
Guys this wasn't even my point. There are threads here saying don't use the words bleach or chlorine. Instead too use "a secret formula" or algaecides and water.
My point was only that people need not hide the solutions from the customers. Not pointed directly at you Bruce.

Thanks Scott. I am good. I get your meaning now and you are correct. Just put it out there as it is.
I know what you all mean, Im just saying using words such as bleach, is kinda scary to some people , i choose not to use it, if you choose to use it, then thats up to you. I do not steer my custmors in any wrong direction i just tell them im using what the ARMA recommends, and if I must expalin furthur then I state Sodium Hypochlorite. which is what I use..

Ugly shingles I really dig your logo! Thanks everyone! Well looks like the winner will be bob at Pressure Tek and the fatboy.. Speaking of fat boy I need to go running. Have any of you guys tried those special shoes for climbing on roofs? I think they are called cougar shoes or something in that realm. How about safety harnesses where do you and how do you use them properly?

It's funny how there is such varying opinion on different pumps and hose diameter. I ended up purchasing the Delavan PowerFLO 5800 Series 5.3 gpm 60 psi (12 VOLT) pump as well as the accumulator from PressureTek. I've been taught to always run clean water through your system after a job to extend the life of the pump. But even then it will supposedly last only a couple years due to the chemicals. I also purchased 1/2" versus 5/8" hose. The justification is that supposedly the 1/2"still gives you the volume you need and it's easier to handle. Also the 5/8" might result in too much head pressure for the pump for two story houses and it won't spray far enough. But I suppose if you have a larger pump, that would not be an issue.
We also never use the word Bleach, It kinda cheapens what we do. Many customers would think that's all your spraying on my roof. We have people ask us all the time what we use and we just tell them an algacide mixture. I would think it would be hard to sell an $800.00 roof job by saying we spray bleach on your roof. Thats are opion.

*When Sodium Hypochlorite breaks down, it forms Hypochlorous Acid and a Hypochlorite Ion.Sodium Hypochlorite breaks down when it comes in contact with organics, a temperature rise, high or low pH, time passing and ultraviolet rays. The Hypochlorous Acid is REACTIVE to the Fiberglass mixed in with the Polypropylene body of the pump. The Fiberglass improves the integrity and strength of the pump manifold but is ultimately the inherent time bomb for roof washers using Sodium Hypochlorite. The result is pin-prick size holes and/or cracks in the pump caused by the degradation of the strands of Fiberglass by the Hypochlorous Acid.
Please note that the polypropylene or nylon bodied pumps or wetted components such as the head of a pump are fiberglass or glass reinforced. SH gas degrades the fiberglass or glass and causespin-prick size holes and/or cracks in the pump in the pump. The pump is considered disposable at that time and may be gently placed in a waste receptacle. Most of the seals on these pumps are buna instead of viton. An example of buna can be related to the standard black o-rings and NOT SH resistant or heat resistant compared to the brown o-rings which are chemically and heat resistant.
