Ok I found your questions. This is long but here we go. I tried to spell check everything, please be easy on me...
1. Who owns this 50 point standard the RCIA members or RCIA, INC.?
A. The Roof Cleaning Institute of America was founded by Chris Tucker. In July 2010 Chris Tucker and Bill Booze asked me to come in and help with the org. In August of 2010 we held officer elections within a BOD meeting in order to start formalizing the org. In September 2010 the BOD decided to take the next business step and start a corporation for the new org. There was discussion about where to found the corp. docs (what state) and Florida was chosen because of its proximity to Chris Tucker the founder. I was the only person on the BOD who resided in Florida and was close to Chris T so the BOD tasked me with starting the corp. All of the BOD voted unamanously (sp) to task me with starting the corp. (see BOD meeting minutes)
The RCIA Inc is a corporation in the State of Florida. Its officers are Pres, Chris Tucker, VP, AC Lockyer, Sec, Bill Booz, Trea, Gary Wyer. The RCIA Inc has a federal ID number and a bank account registered to that corp. doc. That corporation makes the payment for the account that hosts the BB with a company named Sparklit. The RCIA legally is The Roof Cleaning Institute of America Inc. A Florida Corporation. If it were not it would be an asset of Chris Tucker which he has openly explained has a 30k judgment against him and has had thousands of dollars ripped from his business accounts from that judgment. If Chris owned the RCIA right now the 10k we have in the bank would be gone. Corporations are created to protect the assets of the corporation, business or org. Also they are created to place a veil between the officers and the business in the event of unforeseen liability.
In order to do certification correctly we had to create a corp. so those working on the cert could have protection from unforeseen liability that could arise from the cert process. The RCIA is an organization within a corporation. So the corporation owns the materials this organization creates. All of the items created by the RCIA are for improving the roof cleaning industry, first for the contractor.
Chris Tucker voted and was in complete agreement with all of the decisions listed above.
2. So what’s going to keep you from selling the certification to Delux.
A. Nothing right now. I can say that selling our program is not part of our business plan. I was asked by Delux after they asked Chris T and Bill B the same, to develop this class for Delux. They were planning on using another orgs cert or develop their own. I influenced them to take a harder look at the RCIA. It has always been the BOD’s plan to take whatever cert program we create and lease it out to other training organizations. In fact this was first looked at as a way to limit liability for the org. Initially we looked at the RCIA would create the 50 Point Standard, Another org could develop the certification program and test and a school could administer the training and test. All along the RCIA receiving royalties for the 50 Point Standard so we had income for operating expenses.
3. Also your class is teaching this soft wash certification, it’s all about your skid and your chemicals from my understanding.
A. It is no mystery that Delux has a business model for their Delux University that they do these classes to train someone on their equipment in the HOPE that they will continue to use it and purchase chemicals from them. They have had 2 other schools operating on this concept for over a decade. The class is not all about my skid. There are 5 days of instruction. There are modules on Business Plans, Marketing, Systems, Safety, The 50 Point Standard, etc. There are 2 modules of the 15 that are specific to my equipment.
4. What do you have here a 3 yr contract with Delux.?
A. Yes
5. So tell me AC, are you going to lease this certification to Delux.
A. I am not going to do anything. The RCIA has a BOD, we follow Parliamentary Procedure. We have discussions about the org and the directions we want to take. BOD members make motions, motions are seconded, discussion is held, a question is called for to end discussions and a vote is held. Everything we have done over the last 6 months has been discussed and voted on. Delux was the first trade school to show an interest in our program. They made an offer of an honorarium to pay back to the RCIA for the use of the test only. That is all still up in the air.
6. Who voted on this? Or was it voted on?
A. Yes see above.
7. Why do I see you selling us out?
A. I am not sure. What evidence do you have of me selling the RCIA out?
8. It seems like there is a lot of sneaking around and a lot of unanswered questions.
A. Hard to sneak around when every board meeting is recorded and Bill Booz posts the minutes and agendas. We will try harder to answer your questions David.
9. Why has it taken so long to get this certification written?
A. Well we canceled the old certification over liability concerns in early October I believe. November came and we created a new certification committee. Gary Wyer even posted a thread about the creation of that committee on the BB. The members of that committee got busy with personal business and things were dropped. One of the drops was the 50 Point Standard. Remember we had posted a promise on the BB that we were going to have it done by Christmas Eve as a present to the RCIA. A week before the Christmas Eve deadline nothing was moving on completing this task. A very few BOD members had to scramble to take the various points created in the moderators sub forum along with the ones posted on the preemie sub forum and hustle to make the promised deadline. That original doc failed to get enough votes from the membership. After a few weeks an updated version that was debated on the BB for some time was reviewed and drafted by Kim at Presidential Power Washing. That doc did pass the membership vote and was ratified by the BOD on January 17th 2011. Approximately one month later the BOD took some volunteers from a list Bruce Sullivan put together for the BOD were asked to join the BOD on a conference call and the Certification Committee was newly created with Chris Madden as the Chair. We are in our fifth month working towards the goal of certification. How long do you think it should take?
10. Is it because you needed this time to write this 300 page doc for your class?
A. No, actually the back-up drive that had all of my content from 18 years in business, operations manuals, pictures, forms, spreadsheets crashed in November and I just got all the info back from the recovery company 2 weeks ago. I have been working 16 hour days; way into the wee hours of the morning trying to get the class done that Delux contracted me to create. I am way behind but very positive. It is coming out great.
11. Is this what this last trip to Miss. about?
A. The Mississippi trip was for Professional Business Guide customers. I have a relationship with a large nationwide property management company. They have a leadership conference there every year that I go to. I invited all of my clients to come there for training on how to do this type of higher level marketing to management companies. We are hoping we will get a blessing of work for their companies from that trip. Had nothing to do with the RCIA.
S. Again seems like a lot of sneaking around, some answers would be nice AC. Straight answers, no sugar coated bullshit.
A. The BOD isn’t a government entity. There are no sunshine laws that tell us we need to tell you everything we discuss, do or implement. Sometimes things are best unsaid, things change directions are adjusted, when it all settles out and we have a definitive answer for you we try to get it out ASAP as clear as we can. Are we perfect? NO! I spend over 20 hour a week on this org, so does Gary and Bill. I believe that our hours spent added to our passion for serving this org should gain us some grace for out imperfections. After all we are going exactly where we planned to be.
Some of the members say, “It’s all been said and its all out there, roof cleaning isn’t rocket science.” This is true. How much can we ramble on about mixes, pumps, hoses, etc? It has all been said. I’d like to start discussions on, Group Health Insurance, Payroll Servicing Companies, Insurance and Workers Comp Discounts for Certified Members, Disability Insurance or Pool for Injured or Out of Work Members, and the list goes on.
Where is your business going to be in 10 years? Can you afford to send your kids to college? What is your plan for retirement? How long it is before the government has its hand in your kitty?
David, I am going to stand at the gate of this industry and protect it from attacks in any form! Will you stand with me?

You are now officially my Bud too!
I don't mind the pink, but "HOOVER" Hmmmm
In my town, I started John Hoover in the pressure cleaning business, maybe 15 years ago??
He was a real go getter and built a big business in 6 or 7 years. Then he sold it and now Hoover Pressure Cleaning is one of my major competitors locally. They advertise "NO PRESSURE CLEANING" but last thing I knew, they owned nothing but pressure washing machines.
You are a different Hoover, so you fall in the "Bud" class!
Chuck

When my wife would say her name and people would say "Hoover? As in the vacuum cleaner?" She would say "No, as in the Hoover Dam!" As if she was offended...lol. It never bothered me. I never gave it a second thought. Of course then again, I am pretty much care free and don't let to many things bother me. Accept you SOB's. (Present company excluded of course.) Sorry, I really love that emoticon. And no, it is not because I was in prison! It just cracks me up. Good night alll and to all a good night!

What the hell has happened to this board? Had alot of good people running it, now Bill booze leaving? I have seen the effects of cabin fever last year but I don't think this is it. What a shame...so close........

It is a shame that we can not keep good people because of all the crap they take from members who would rather comlain than put out and lead the group. That is one of the reasons I have never wanted to lead besides the fact that I just do not have the time. Our BOD members are putting in some serious time into trying to make RCIA succeed. Some members do not want this to happen because they continue to create descension with in the ranks by attacking every decision that the BOD makes.
I am sick of hearing this. If you do not like the decisions that the BOD makes then go start your own organization. I do not see anything that you have done to advance RICA in comparision to what the BOD has done, and they are not paid. Can't you just respect that and get off their backs so that can direct their energy to growing this organization.
It takes money to grow and organization and interested vendors willing to invest into it. Look at PWNA, in its early years it was run by vendors. Namely Robert Hinderligter who runs Delux. Yes Robert is making a handful on this certification coarse. It only benfits RCIA if he does because that will make Delux & RCIA dependent on each other.
Once other vendors see that the courses sell, then they will develop their own courses and compete with Delux for the buck and prices will later fall due to competition. You can be guaranteed that Pete Marentay is keeping an eye on the situation as he and Sunbrite have attended every RCIA conference that I have. His training course prices are not cheap either. Here is an exerpt from his latest newsletter.
"If you have been to any Round-Table over the last year, you have probably seen a demo of Seal 'N Lock.
The finishing touches have just been completed on a new four-hour Certification Course that we will offered to the industry for the first time on Friday, April 29th. "
$100 is nothing to pay for an organization. That is the cheapest I have3 ever heard a professional organization charging. If we want to keep it that low then someone else is going to have to shell out the dough to run it. Quit running off vendors and BOD members, get your head out of the sand, and smell the roses. Look at other professional organizations history of growth. I have seen organiztions come and go. I do not want RCIA to be a "WAS".
I would like to see RCIA grow into another PWNA. We need a strong organization to protect us in hard times, and trust me hard times will come. Look what PWNA & Robert Hinderligter have done for the power washing industry. It sure couldn't hurt RCIA. Let them make a buck and it will help RCIA grow by light years. Quit deterring the growth of RCIA.
Everyone is so suspicious of AC. No, he is not my bud. He has been after me for 2 weeks to help him out with a project and I have not because I just do not have the time due to business reasons, computer network problems, cub scouts, home work, and family time. That is also another reason that I have not been on this or any other board lately.
Yes I hired him for his Wilderness Tour. In one week of being around him I can assure you this. He is genuinely interested in helping RCIA grow. Yes, he will make money off of RCIA but that is not bad. Experience and time is not free. The same thing happened in PWNA's infancy. It's leaders made money off of it and that gave them reason to make PWNA succeed as an organization. What I paid AC to train me for one week has paid for itself in chemical savings alone in several months. It may sound like a lot of money but it shaved at least 3 years growth of my business. How do you put a price on time unless you are a know it all.
Is there anyone else who feels the way I do and are sick of all of this negative talk. If so please speak up or I will just shut up and go my own way.
Lets get back to our positive goal of making RCIA and its members succeed instead of destroying it before it gets started.
Well said and I agree! I won't get into the whole thing but I feel this way. If A/C or Chris Tucker,Bill Booze and the other top guys on here " speak " I listen I would be a FOOL not to. I "take " what I like and disregard the rest. We don't need to belong to RCIA to run a buisness or clean roofs, so I cant believe for a hundred a year people are getting this crazy. Two thousand, five hundred, three hundred to get certified no thanks, I would like to have it but I don't need it. I am not going to get angry about I just will not have it. This board is full of very intelligent people, Gary,A/C and many others who are kind enough to answer questions you may have, and we are adding stress to thier lives? I don't care who makes how much money from selling what on here, if you dont want it don't buy it! If you don't like someone try and work it out or leave it alone. Finally the season is starting here on Long Island and I hope to be very busy, I wonder where RCIA will be in the middle of November. Who ever is leaving, I just want to say thanks for evrything!
Your welcome guys and believe me there is a place were this can happen, maybe it is PWNA maybe it is something new, but attached to this forum there is no future I can see. Forums and Orgs don't mix. Forums create a platform were any yahoo can play leader. Remember Dave W. anyone?? The god of roof cleaning that could save your business while he only did 28k a year in business after 20 years of trying??
For the record in the end I was leaning towards the cert being free, and charging for our webinars as we already had. You could use college credits in business, Fire safety course, Osha courses and a a hole bunch more for the 10 hour education requirement we spoke of. 60 hours of field time and pass the test that was going to pretty much be it. That was my idea in the end.
No one ever as far as I know said it would be $500 or anything.
I assumed for years it would have too be around $350 with maybe a simple $100 yearly renewal and a test to stay up to date.
The cert committee looked like it was headed towards $200-$250
Just trying to clarify brothers and sisters.
PWNA cert is almost complete. Looks like it will cost $150 and looks like they will teach Pressure and no-pressure methods. So you might as well just get the cert from a real org with a real backing in law, and liability. RCIA missed the boat due to bad navigation.
What the hell has happened to this board? Had alot of good people running it, now Bill booze leaving? I have seen the effects of cabin fever last year but I don't think this is it. What a shame...so close........

Together we stand, apart we will fall.
Well said and some more stuff I didnt highlight.
I've suggested it else where. To help pay for some things. I'll do it again here. How about alowing advertising here? That would generate some funds? The RCIA has the traffic.
I'm very proud of the RCIA.
Ron the vendors, AC, I was wrong before, I just kinda fell in with the pack.
I was only looking a couple steps ahead of me, like them, instead of looking further ahead.
Guys that put in alot of free time for the RCIA and it's development. They are talking about leaving.
Guys with out signatures stirring stuff up now. Who are they?
The RCIA is a place that you learn more than just roof cleaning. I did. I now truly have a network of friends I trust. Other aspects of running Gutterdogs I've learned here too.
I have a better understanding in the past 2 months, of the bigger picture.
I appologize to everyone I've argued with, the thoughts that were put into my head, about coruption, greed, selfishness, unfairness, all that chit.
2 people can see the same car accident from different angles and come up with different reasons as to who was at fault.
Thanks Mike, most vendors agreed they would not advertise here after they had to deal with Lori, then after she was gone this AC thing happened. No vendor that has tried to ad here, has been happy with it. that includes: Envirospec, Sunbright, Deluxe, Southwest and a few more.
We wanted to advertise and we sent Chris the code to add banner adds to the forum. But no one wants to play with us anymore. It's too messy, we tried and tried. I doubt they will be interested unless allowed a large amount of time of seeing it different.

Then we have to prove ourselves worthy again. I dont think it will take as long as you feel it will Bill.
If anything, now weve been through what not to do? Going forward we are smarter now.
