I am finding the tire-kickers never want to be home when you estimate the job or ask ANY questions period, so my solution is now, if you don't want to be home, then I ain't driving 30 min. to leave an estimate. So now we will call them back with a verbal estimate based on county assessor records, unless we are in the area. The call I got today and a few others in the past, is "we don't have to be home do we?" I explain that we would really like you to be there if you have any questions.... silence..... It boils down to a 30 sec. call, not asking too much about anything, just throw me a number! Just give me a price and we will call you. I feel like the fat chick in a bar getting her number taken and the dude saying I'll call you... ya know where that goes. LOL Why do they even bother getting an estimate? for chits & giggles? maybe I am way off base, idk, but in the Florida, seems to be the trend. I think what I may do is throw contracts in the yards of the dirty roofs and save them the call! LOL Pissey today, cause I can't sell shit when they want to hang up in 10 secs. and really don't seem to care about anything but a number.
I don't do a quote unless they are there. Tell them I don't want a neighbor calling the police about a trespasser. "Let me know a good day and time to meet."
some funny relief to doing biz. say i have a min of 550. like how the taco bell sandwich lady commercial says it. they will say five dollers and fifty cents, then you say no five hundred and fifty dollers. is our starting point. youtube stoped the posting of that video so soory have to find it watching tv.

I told one guy "That's like asking the mechanic to give you a price on your car after describing the noise it makes."
I need to see the house and I need you to be there when I do.
But we just started using a minimum job amount.
So now when they say well "I just need a price" I say, "Prices start at $xxx.xx or $.xx a sqft which ever is greater."

I like the way you approach this issue. When I get someone who only wants a price I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be the lowest. Thanks for the ideas of how to handle the situation.
