Though I have written some quotes from over the phone contacts, which were customers that all ready wanted their roof cleaned, I go on site and have my quote on an Ipad and have them electronically sign them and forward on the spot to their e-mail. What you call proposal, I call quote, as my intent is to close the deal on the spot.

Also while I am there at the home I put out fliers in the surrounding area.

In my opinion, the key is in the closing of the deal, which is done in person in most cases. Proposals/quotes mean nothing unless you close the deal. That is a skill set learned and needs to be done in person on site.

I am not sure this is helpful to your question, but I recommend you consider looking at your service as to how I close the deal, the proposal/quote should be simple and to the point.

 

I am afraid I am still missing the point. The quote/proposal is nothing more than whatever you and the customer agree to as terms of the cleaning in writing. If the deal is closed it is not a proposal, but the terms of the quote.

A proposal is the terms you are offering to do the service. i.e. I propose to clean your roof for X per sq. ft., in most cases the proposal is presented to the HO in person while you are there, unless of course you are mailing/e-mailing a proposal to the HO for roof cleaning, than the proposal is nothing more then the terms of the service.

Just my two cents. Maybe others will respond with a better understanding or process.

This way, if there are other causes for discoloration, I'm not on the hook for it.  The word 'clean' is a bit too general for my likings.

Is this what you mean? I have this basic proposal set up and write in by hand, while standing there with the customer, wording that meets our mutual satisfaction on the spot. I do not ask for signed contracts, I just make a duplicate for myself. This also serves as a receipt

Bruce, what app are you using to have customers sign on your iPad ?

I'm specifically asking about work description...I like:

Remove Discoloration,Lichen,Mold Algae,Pollution from Tile Roof. Care will be used to protect surrounding areas. Landscaping will be watered,covered & or rinsed. Integrity Roof Cleaning will not be responsible for any damage to plants or objects not removed from work area.

I always take my "Flip" up on the roofs to document any roof damage but haden't really thought about that for surrounding areas.

I always tell my customers when I schedule work, that they should remove any small potted plants, radios,
TV's and personal items from their Lanai / pool areas etc. I tell them anything heavy we will move. I have bid pressure cleaning pool / lanai areas over the phone and not mentioned that, only to find 100 potted plants, all kinds of hanging decorations, clocks, radios, small tv's etc. Because I hadn't told them in advance, I had to remove it all and put it back, which took longer than the pressure washing did!
Now, I always think ahead!
