It looks like i'm a day or two from buying my pump. Tommorrow I am getting my hose and ball valve set up for gun. Then, I am buying my pump. I searched pump in a box and people seem to be talking about how they set it up but, so far I have not found a review citing the pro's and con's of the system. My idea is a delevan 5850 with one inch suction and 5/8 pressure. I guess what I want to know is , is the PIB setup a good way to go or not? Someone posted there 5850 burned up in an hour???

Your wasting time and money with the pump in the box, that thing hits 180 degrees and its toast.

Also the extra battery box is a waste, it won't fit a decent sized battery...I had to cut extra vent holes as well as drain holes in the event I sprang a leak it wouldn't drown the pump.....IMO, make your own set-up

Thanks, I was wondering about heat and leakage. I think I will get a marine battery box for my battery. When I wire my battery I plan to wire it to my either alternator or battery for charging with a cutoff while using so I don't wind up with a dead truck battery.

  The pump in a box is from pressuretek.  With the pump in a box all the wiring is done for you.  Bob's a great guy.  I bought my second set-up from him.  My old pump died and I was in a hurry to get one.  Bob is local and he hooked me right up.  I bought the flojet pentaflex(I think that how it's spelled).  I was able to get everything and work the next day.

Back in my 12 volt roof cleaning pump days, I never used one in a box. That don't mean it ain't any good, but these little guys get hot. I always used heat sinks on my 12 volt roof cleaning pumps. I guess if u used a plastic box with a lid u can remove, it may be ok ? The box does protect from UV Rays and rain, and makes a neat installation.

Yeah, I like the idea of it looking nice but, if the other box doesn't fit a marine battery it's no good to me. The upside is that it comes PREWIRED. Not that I can't figure it out but, one less step is one less stepand trips to the store to make sure I have everything. Definitely take the lid off during use.

Rodney, I have this set-up works fine. Pump in a box has a cooling fan to keep the pump cooler. This set-up is perfect to start out with. One thing though, use proper size nozzles with it. If you use a smaller size nozzle, you will burn the pump up...Quick! Deep Cycle Battery very Important!

if you keep it out of the box, keep it out of the sunlight and rain. These pumps are not designed to use outdoors, the sunlights uv rays will work on the pump head and the rain will do a number on the motor.

IMO, out of the box, sheltered from the elements.

Guy is right,. Bob is one of the best dealers I have dealt with and he takes pride in his customer service. He would not build it and sell it if it wouldn't hold up. I have the pump in the box and it is great. Just plug and play so to speak. One thing I would highly recommend is to get an accumulator with it so nozzle sizes won't be an issue. I've ran # 10 tips and the pump would only cycle every 3 to 5 seconds. It is on the same page as his pumps. I would also go ahead and get the Fat Boy with the accumulator it is very easy to control. That's just my opinion but I to am fairly new and this set up has worked great for me with very little run off and happy customers.

What about a pre pump filter? Surely Yall use one. What kind?

Use a piece of wellpoint at the end of your suctioin hose. I tired using an inline filter and my 5850 could not get a good prime.
