Rodney, your gonna get half/half responses-LOL!!!

12v are cheaper to get set-up and you'll get your return on investment quicker, I think the air-pump systems are better, but you add the compressor to the cost.....some have both with I think is sweet, in the event you have problems with one, your back up is right there.

I'll let the other big dogs chime in..confuse

Peace

Depends, are you doing this Full-Time or Part-Time? Do you have a "Regular Job" and are Building Your Business? Are you just going to Target "Roof Cleaning"? Have you budgeted for Insurance? Have you budgeted for Marketing? Do you have a Business Plan?

Don't go into this "Half Cocked" make sure you have a Plan. Make sure you have the Money to make your plan succeed. 90% of ALL Businesses fail in the 1st year...Don't Be One Of Them!!!

Been thru the business failing in a year. No, I dont have another job. I had a roofing business that failed after first year due to partnership problems. NO more partners!! My main line will be roof cleaning because roofing is what I know already. I will be able to offer inspections and repairs before starting the wash job. I do want to wash houses, fences, sidewalks,  patios, decks and concrete. I would like to as much as possible with noon pressure. I do not have a business plan. I don't even know what one looks like. Advertising is something i'm still thinking about. While roofing I did some door knocking and word of mouth kept me busy after that. I never had a problem with not staying busy. The business did not fail due to lack of work.I will carry general liability ins.

OK, you got a so so foundation to start on Rodney. So here's what I see, so don't be pissed.

You are not affraid of work, that's good. You have no idea how to run a Business, that's Bad.

Keeping Busy, does not mean making a Profit. Running a Business means making a profit. Keeping your head above water means staying busy. People stay busy all the time and go broke.

Thinking about Advertising???? This is what makes the profit!!!

For what it's worth here's my advice.

Stay On The Boards, educate yourself more, a lot more.

Get a Job.

Sign up for Small Business Classes.

Get to know your market.

Understand what equipment you will need for your Business, and what it cost.

Have a Business Plan!!!!

Get A Loan for the amount that will cover building your Business to succeed. I borrowed $15,000.00 and paid it back in 3 years.

Keep the regular Job and build your Business at the same time.

When your regular Job interferes with making Big Money in your Business, quit the regular Job and "Have At It" on your own.

I do wish you the best of luck!!!

Not busting your sack Buddy, but the wording in you post says, you ain't gonna make it.

Problems, are issues with NO solution. Jobs are out there and you can get one! The Money IS out there, YOU can find it! So those are not problems, they are excuses.

The last thing you said was the "Killer"..... "I Believe I Can" sorry Man, if you don't know "You Can".. "I Will"... "I Am" then you might want to rethink your Direction.

Rodney theres a great book called "The E Myth Contractor. why most contractors' businesses don't work and what to do about it ". You can be the best roof cleaner in the world, but if you don't understand business and how to run one, it will almost surely fail. You can also get more valuable business material by becoming a premium member. Good luck brother.
One more piece of advice. This is a highly ranked site. Many of us here have been viewed by potential clients and have gotten jobs from this site as well.. As for yourself you may want to try to emulate some of the profile pictures of us who been here for a while. Your profile pic may be interpreted as you being someone who drinks too much and passes out on the floor, then gets takin advantage of by your dog. Just my immediate observation.

The most important part  is to have no debt! Pay as you go is the best way to build a roof cleaning business. I started with a 12v pump , 2 -55 gallon drums, some garden hose and a cheap 2 dollar nozzle.

I agree with this. When I started I said to myself this will not fail and I will work as hard as I need to. I will make this work and I will succeed. I have read a lot of books (Some have helped) since i have started (1990) and I do think it is in you not a book!!!!!!!

THANKS great feedback on avatar. I have removed it until I find an APPROPRIATE pic. My wife would say "He can be taught!!". I apolgize for sounding hesitant. I'm just attempting to be humble in my aspirations on your forum. I just don't want to sound like an overinflated blowhard. I will check out the book.

I will make this work and it will be successful beyond my wildest dreams. I signed up for a small business class at my local junior college already. I am going to arm myself with all of the knowledge that I can buy, beg, borrow or steal. Well not really steal. Again thanks for all yalls input. I plan to be a paying member next week.

Rodney,

These are an excellent start to growing your business, but remember
the most important part is setting goals, and having a plan in place to meet
those goals, and then to set new goals, and repeat. smile

It was a pleasure talking with you on the phone tonight, and I think you are
on the correct path. The NOLA is a great way to start and learn from others.

Chris

There might be hope for you yet Young "Jedi", seems you've found the "Force". Much Knowledge In NOLA There Will Be (Yoda Voice).

One thing I left out in my advice for you Rodney, I did a years worth of research on, equipment, marketing, demographics, RT's then spent 5 yrs. working a 40 hr a week job + running my Business at the same time, and I'll never work for another person again...ever...And I Knew It Would Happen, No Doubt In My Mind!

Keep The Above Attitude And You Will Do Just Fine!!!

Go with the 12 volt pumps to start. Use barrels for tanks if you have to.

and read EMYTH
