Doing homework on Roof Shampoo

I went to roof shampoo's FAQ page because I want to know what the "specially calibrated pressure" is. Of course, they don't say anything about the pressure andI thought someone here might know.

This is usually around 800 psi, imagine dropping a 800 lb weight on your foot is how we use to sell against this mindset.

Also, reading their FAQ's they make many claims that are not true from my education here and well as the ARMA & GAF bulletins. One of the things I am trying to get an answer on is the statement "it could void your insect control treatment". I sent an email to a friend in MD who is licensed in four states and knows pest control well. I'm sure he will get back to me with the right answer.

This is directed towards termite treatments, specially slab treatments on new construction homes. Some of the older barrier treatments can be neutralized by bleach. This is a fact, though I think it is written into the warranty to keep termite bonds from having to pay up for termite damages. Who doesn't powerwash their home with bleach and water? It is something to watch for. Dursban was one of the treatments but has now been taken off the market. This is actually old news and the newer treatments and bond programs don't have this issue from what I have seen.

I would post the link here but I'm not sure if that is a good idea. I'm sure you can find their FAQ page and see some of the things I'm talking about.

At present, there isn't one of these within two hours of here, but you never know when one will pop up,

I am sure they will pop up. As all good roof cleaning franchises they will also fail. They ALL have period end of story. I am not sure why but a franchise or distributorship system doesn't work in this industry, or at least hasn't yet?

Thank you AC! Knowing that "low pressure" psi is a good thing for all of us remember.

I spoke to my friend in MD this morning and he says pretty much the same thing you did but he added... "If you did get SH on the ground it would be so diluted (knowing the method we use) that it wouldn't be a problem". He went on too say that a 1500 sf home would take 300 - 400 gals of treatment and at least that much SH to neutralize it. If anyone asked about this, he suggested a look at their termite warranty.

The Scampoo crew in the Northern VA area has reached a new low. They're lurking, and learning. I just took this snippet from the main page of their website:

We NEVER use high pressure when cleaning a roof. We use a low pressure rinse along with a bio-degradableRoof Shampoo™that won’t harm your shingle or the surrounding vegetation around your home. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) recommends that roof shingles be cleaned with a low pressure wash chemical method– never high pressure!

I'm going to kick things up a few more notches to ensure I NEVER lose a job to them. (Haven't yet that I'm aware of) I've got a few more incriminating pictures to add to my arsenal. Just part of the consultation of course, never bad mouthing any company, only unscrupulous people that use high pressure and damage shingles I do like their prices though. VERY high.

I think I'll carry the phone number for ARMA with me too from now on. One of the easiest (and most profitable) sales I had this year was a Dr's wife who had done some research and spoke with an ARMA rep before I even got to her home.

Time to dig up a white paper on hydraulics or fluid dynamics that explains what 800 PSI is capable of in lay terms. I reckon it'd be about like having a fat chick step on your hand while she's wearing stilletos - just the heel? LOL Lady clients wouldn't like that analogy I bet

And I almost forgot - Shampoo Goons, doesn't the 'shampoo' go on before the 'rinse' (albeit a high pressure rinse) LOL
