After a couple of months lurking here on this wonderful forum I've decided to take the plunge and join.
I'm thinking roof cleaning may be a business I'd like to get into, and appreciate having a site like this to research on.
I've read till my eyes have bled on many an occasion and feel like this is a community built by great people.
My first question is this. How do I become a premium member? That the information on this site is of value is a no brainer to me. And now that some of it has been made exclusive, I want to be a part of those that can benefit from it.
$100.00 seems a paltry sum to join. And the fact that I can stay and learn makes it worth the expense.
Do I contact Gary directly through PM to to become a premium member?

Yes Gary would be your point of contact, plus you have a few others that would be able to help. I do believe Gary was going to be away for a little while due to some surgery coming up. Just PM him plus Bill would be able to help you out. Good luck on your adventure here, I am sure you will enjoy it and be able to make an reasonable living doing it once you learn plus get the word out in your area that you live. Take it slow and if your starting out you may want to continue working at what your doing for a while until you get your feet wet doing this for a while, again welcome.
Thank you for the information and encouraging words James.
There's a lot to this roof cleaning business. But it's still in it's infancy here in our area, and most homeowners aren't even aware of what's wrong with their roofs.

Surgery is not til 1-12-11. Pat you've got mail and the info you need. Gary
It's good to know there are so many accomplished people here willing to share knowledge on roof cleaning standards and practices. I've already saved lots of threads in my fav's so I can surf back to them later.
I generally like to research a thing to death before I jump in. That way when I go, I'm not afraid to go with both feet.
I'll not plaque you guys with a bunch of questions yet and possibly not at all, mostly I've been able to find what I want or need by using the search feature. Well, that and just a bunch of reading. It's funny how once I have my mind made up about what's best. You know like say "truck or trailer?" or "this pump or that pump"? Then I run into another thread discussing the merits of the two and find a whole nother list of features and benefits to one or the other that I hadn't even considered.
Also I like the way this medium is going with the paid members section. That just shows commitment and staying power to me, and I like being part of well defined things that have intent and purpose. That this industry will have a regulating body sometime in the future bodes very well for it's long term growth and over all health.

Welcome to the RCIA! What part of Indiana do you call home? PM me anytime, if I can help you I will.
Southern Indiana in what's called the Tric City Area, just north of Louisville KY.
Every other roof you drive by here in southern IN is covered with black streaks, I don't know if it's due to so much forestry or what. But we have lots and lots of standing timber, with state and national forests all over the place. It's beautiful country and I feel fortunate to call it home.

Pat; We're neighbors since I live in Louisville. I cleaned a bunch of roofs in S. Indiana this summer. The area is wide open with plenty of work for all. Need anything, PM me. Gary
What are you going to call your business? Do you have info like location and phone numbers you can put in your signature yet. It is good to have this info because other RCIA members near you can help support you or even refer you business.

Thanks Gary! Later this evening when I get home from my day job, I'll be signing up for premium membership.
I was thinking that I might contact you about pricing in our area. The last thing I want to do is prostitute the services and cheapen it. When folks don't pay enough for a given thing, it's been my experience they're not able to properly appreciate it in a cost vs value sense.
I certainly don't want "certified and properly done" roof cleaning to be cheapened any.

I'm not sure of a name or location yet. And a phone # won't be coming till after Jan 1st along with a website.
There's so much to do and think about. I'm still putting the actual business plan together and reviewing all of the start up costs. I've read some very good threads here on getting started, and will be employing the knowledge I've found.
