This thread is just what I was referring to the great potential of all these minds to bring this whole new look and operations of RCIA into a new light. Just the fact that this is raising an issue about losing the use of the logo means many of you care to be here. That says a lot about the integrity of it's members. I get what many that have not signed up yet are wondering what are these changes going to do to further help me. That is the real beauty of this rebuild, is we ALL have a say in things for the future of RCIA. Becoming a member is an insurance for you as well as RCIA that we are going for it... full fledged all out rebuild.
Many have taken a leap of faith trusting in Chris Tucker and other members to educate us and as we go out and take on that first roof cleaning job we trusted what was told to us here. About what chemicals to use to, what equipment to buy, insurance contacts the techniques to make sure the homeowners suffer no damage to their property. Ultimately we trusted completely what we learned here to go out and treat some ones roof the 1st,2nd and 3rd time and had our own house to come back to, to talk about what our experience was and how did I do? This may not pertain to all of you but to the ones that it does, I think you will agree, we jumped in and trusted many of these guys. So that is where I am at placing my trust in the same group of guys here, as they have yet to steer me wrong yet.
And the best part of all of this is the ability to give back in what ever way I can. I choose to kick in $100 bucks, could have bought some thing else, but I feel it is an investment for the future of my business. And what is this going to do for me, if we can retain half of the members here, it is unbelievable how many really stinking smart educated people are here. That is what I paid my dues for is to be with the likes of the many really smart hard thinking creative positive people and that is what is here. I paid my dues to share wisdom. I in turn will give what I can to whomever I can help. So I am thankful to the ones that are paid members and the ones who haven't committed as of yet. I just hope that the value given and received will prompt as many as possible to join in as paid members with RCIA.
As far as where RCIA is going has not been spelled out but when we attended the NCE event in Tampa, I couldn't help but think how all this was funded and every time I look at the shirts freely given to me by Ron Musgraves and RCIA it makes me stop and think who paid for this? being in business everything cost money, so who paid for this and the many other free things all without a string attached. But what I got the most about it all, was the complete professional attitude and freely given info to make my future business successful. again no strings attached. I have a lot to be thankful for and going to the NCE event was a turning point for us and hopeful that my paid dues bought RCIA the ability to continue to attend events like this amongst many other things yet to be discovered. Whew sorry for the long winded response. Sincerely, KIM R
One more thing Using the search feature type in the words.. thank you ...and see what comes up! Many words of thanks, just remembering where we all came from. I will shut up now. KIM R
Along with the recent changes that took effect 11/01/10 regulating the use of the RCIA logo on websites and advertising, to be restricted to "Members" only, another regulation will go into effect 11/14/10 at 12:00 A.M.
At that time any certified guest that has a listing in the "Certified Roof Cleaners Directory" will have their listing deleted. This directory, along with the use of the logo, is reserved for "MEMBERS" ONLY. Sorry for the inconveinence. Gary
Hey this is fair and I'm a day late. This is very fair.
I just wanted to address a few things that I personally have noticed. I am not on the board of directors nor a moderator so everything I say is simply my opinion.
People wanted to put the RCIA logo on their websites and marketing material because THEY perceived a value to their companies in doing so. I think that's a fair assumption? Now that they are being asked to pay a minimal membership fee for that value that THEY initially perceived it's met with a heavy hand. There is a ton of value to becoming a member; first let's break down the costs: One year membership= $100 or roughly $8.33 per month or roughly one trip to taco bell! In return they get a t-shirt ($10 value) They get the ability to post their business information on a forum that takes the top searches for roof cleaning on nearly every major search engine! They get to have a voice in an organization that will be influential in the roof cleaning industry. There's tons more value that everyone sees and recognizes yet only a handful have been willing to pay for. It's got to be a cumulative effort on everyones part to turn this site and the RCIA into a major powerhouse and organization.
You yourself said how much time, effort, AND money you and so many others on here have given all while anyone who logs on can absorb it for free and utilize that information to create a six figure income for themselves. I think after years of it being an open exchange it's time for the RCIA to ask for support in return.
I requested moderator, I love the RCIA as much as you! You should go first.
100.00 bucks is very little, but lets allow others to see this for themselves. Attend other Events, we will hold a RCIA roof cleaning event in Florida someplace in 2011.
Florida was a great place, Chris Tucker was the funniest guy at NCE roundtables all of 2008 2009 and 2010. Chris really made me laugh through his tail light warrentee.

You know I run a few forums. Some of them offer really good info and for free. I tried to charge something like $2.00 per month per user. And I went to 3k users to 79 users. Doesn't always work.
However I'm a BIG fan of this site and will have to do what ever I need to do to keep it going strong. Follow my link below to see that one.

I think you said everything that needed to be said, not long winded at all. Years ago I joined National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) and paid dues. Never, in all my years as a member did I get the "free" information I have gotten here (and will always be here). Never was I able to pick brains, have others offer their advice and a place to go for answers and honest critique, good or bad. Check out NARI's why join page http://www.nari.org/join/ There is a lot there that could easily be a part of RICA. Something like this is could easily be the future of RICA.
I've posted part of this before, but I wish everyone who is on the fence about joining the RCIA would read these reasons.
I am not a new roof cleaner, but I've been cleaning roofs the RCIA way for over 10 years now. My former employer knew nothing about the RCIA, and I the time I did not either. However, when I began exploring the options to open my own company last November, I found the RCIA and it has helped me immensely.
Facts: 1) The RCIA has opened my eyes to new tools, supplies, and methods I did not know of previously. What I was doing in my PRE-RCIA days was working fine, but I'm better, more efficient now. Areas of Knowledge include: 1) technical issues b) Marketing c) safety d) equipment
2) I have met a stable of professionals which whom I can share ideas, and referrals with.
3) I have a ready made place to come to to get answers, or at least pose questions/thoughts to issues that may face me in a day to day business.
4) Finally, AND MOST IMPORTANLY....the RCIA brings me business, I can count of at least direct 5 jobs I have gotten due to my postings on the RCIA. Consumers have read about my business here and have met /found me from the forum. This is not some intangible beneift. Conumers have ready my POSTS HERE AND CALLED ME. Cut and dry, no wondering where the business came from.
ALSO, My postings here have made a HUGE positive impact to my google /search engine rankings and I am in the Google 7 pack in all categories in my local area in FLORIDA after only 8 months of association with the RCIA. There no telling how many jobs the RCIA has impacted me indirectly in getting by helping me with the Search Engine Rankings. I am a new company, I have no referral network, or advertising presence. Its all new business to me, and every $ and every job counts.
Above and beyond all the "intangible" benefits of how the RCIA helps, the simple fact is that it BRINGS ME BUISINESS! That alone is worth 20 times the the price of admission.
I have witnessed firsthand the beneifts that posting on the RCIA have given me. Your customers ARE going out and researching information about roof cleaning, they DO USE THE NET, and RCIA IS comming up in thier searches. Also, if you are posting here, it is in turn helping your web-site rankings.

Wow I say I won't invest right now and Chowell feels he has the right to jump my azz.
Give me a freakin break who in the hell do you think you are? I don't bow down and kiss anyones azz not Chris',AC's or yours. I do things when and only when I find it prudent. It has to benefit my business and family. At this time I can not justify an extra hundred since I am in the middle of moving to a different house. As I said I just lost 2 commercial accounts to the tune of $12K a year. So smart move for me since I rarely do roof cleaning with my $2k JB pump is wait until spring when I can push my market again.
Oh and for the record my 1st year roof cleaning I knocked down 150 in the 3 months we did them.300 the following year and multiple hundreds since, but I changed the focus of my company 5 years ago from residential to commercial concrete cleaning and that is where I make the bulk of my income.
I've been doing this almost 10yrs I'm not some fly by night newbie who does have a clue.

Now I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but when Scott, A.C. and other very successful cleaners out there see the value in being a member than it's pretty much a no brainer that it might be worth investing in. I read and don't post much but I will send my investment of 100.00 next week. Or it can even be considered tuition for an online course that never ends. Thanks RCIA

I don't think we should "judge" anybody on this forum. If Scott doesn't wish to join at this time, than that is OK. We all have our own opinions on a lot of issues and we are not going to totally agree on any of them.
Scott may choose to join at a later date, so lets not crap on anyone that doesn't join this organization now.
My two cents on the logo ruling: I agree with Ron....lets not take this away from people that are using the soft wash system. Spread the RCIA word!
What are the consequences going to be for guests that refuse to remove the logo from their website?

Easy Scott, these guys are new to the game themselves. Everyone here is learning, I'm trying to give them some wisdom about the proffesinalism of getting members.
Eevryone here should be treated as a possible customers, Scotts right about jumping his azz. You surely wouldnt chastised a customers because they say I'm going to wait and see if I can do it next week or next year. All you can do is say when your ready sir will be waiting for your call.
This should be no different here, people shouldnt feel pressured to join. I know I never want a pressured customer because they will never be a loyal one. I want my customers to want my service not shove my co down there throat till they say yes.
Food for thought guys, piss one guy off and he tells 1000. make one happy and your lucky if he tells two.

I have known Scott Karvonen for years guys. I assure you if his finances would allow it, he would join. Scott is not someone to pizz and moan, so allow me to do it for him ? He lives in a very small town where there is not work around every corner, and JUST lost his biggest account. I will not get into other challenges he is facing right now, but let me assure you all that Scott is not a freeloader or a cheapskate. Yes, we do have some of those here, and we all appreciate members trying to help. But please, do not group Scott Karvonen in that group.

Slow down there tiger. I never "jumped your azz" I simply was asking a question in regards to why you weren't joining as I was curious as to whether it was because you didn't see the value or for other reasons. If you feel like I jumped your azz then I do apologize as it wasn't my intention at all. I simply asked a one lined question, "so are you saying you don't see the value in joining?" If you took it the wrong way and assumed that all the other posts in this thread were directed at you then again; I do apologize.
