I clean roofs in Clearwater and my low end is .15 / sq. ft. I've lost jobs to lowballers / hacks but I can't see charging much less, doing a good job and staying in business for long.

Actually, Pine Oil "works" to cover up the small of chlorine, but it is not real water soluble, and you end up with GLOBS in your tank that look like something out of the Alien Movies. But like Matt said, most of my development stopped because pressure washers are KILLING the roof cleaning business here in Tampa. Roofs are being done so cheap here, it does not allow all the good things I know.
Hi Chris, ya, I do pressure washing along with my Soft Wash Roof Cleaning. My pressure washing competitors, saw my yellow pages ad years ago, saying "High, Low and No Pressure Roof Cleaning" and now most all of them say it word for word. I know for a fact, that many have no soft wash pumps and just use their chem injectors on their pressure washers as a way to fool the homeowner and then when the homeowners back inside-they pressure wash the roof, taking years off it's life! If they get caught by the homeowner, they say "It wasn't coming clean enough, so I turned the pressure way down on my machine" Or "I'm just using my machine to rinse the roof" Yada Yadad Yada
I started John Hoover [his last name is easily found among pressure washing] and they advertised High Low and No Pressure. I talked to him about it and he said he used his chemical injector. He is a friend of mine, so I'm not slamming him-it's just an example. He sold the business to someone, but it has the same name and still says High Low and No Pressure. I do not know for sure if they actually do soft washing like us or just use the High Low and No Pressure in advertising???

We used Gain dish soap apple mango tango and the Arm & hammer clean burst. Cleaned very well, Smelt good and the cling was better than the mix we used the day before which was slightly different surfactants.
Have you noticed if it weakens your SH if left a few days in the tank?
I know Dawn and most other soaps do weaken the chlorine after it sits a day or more.
Thanks!
Chuck

Hi I love tryin' everything I hear at RCIA. Do you mind telling how much you put into a 100 gallon mix?
If you don't mind spilling the beans - or spilling the Gain dish soap apple mango tango and the Arm & hammer clean burst

I used a 60 gal mix - 1 very small bottle of apple mango and about Half a bottle of A&H clean burst. I think unless you are using something like floramask you are not gonna completely cover the smell of the mix but it helped alot and the cling was also good for how much i've been playin with surfactants. As far as the stength, It was still smokin about 5 days later...I could have used it in a new mix but was tinkering with my truck and emptied out my tank so i could move some stuff around.....It was still pretty strong.
I come across guys weekly who will clean a 3,000 sqft barrel tile roof with a surface cleaner for $99.00 Houses for $50 and driveways for $25 Cold water, no chems....
I also see soft washers that will do them for $65-95 a roof.
The only reason i'm not completely bankrupt is that 99% of them screw something up and I get the neighbors, lol.
But yes, in this area we are lucky to get $0.10 a sqft for tile or shingle. I make more money cleaning concrete then roofs. -- Edited by Matthew on Thursday 10th of February 2011 10:59:02 AM

WOW!!! Are you kidding???? Not worth it in my book.
Thats crazy! I spend about $33 for a 55gal mix (50/50) for barrel or flat tile. If I charge .10 sqft then there is no profit after paying ground guy, gas and the time spent.
I don't understand why any of you guys are using harsh sh.most homeowners i talk to don;t like it and it doesn't seem to do the job eco-friendly cleaners i have found do.you guys are living in the past and need to get withe times.green cleaning is the new age! theres alot of new more earth friendly cleaners out on the market than some cheep homemade solution you contractors are coming up with.

I ordered the latest and greatest roof cleaning chemical on the market months ago. I have not recieved it yet. I left a message days ago to find out when I would recieve it. No call back yet. Jeff since you are so close I'll bring some over and we can go clean some roofs. Wait a minute, wasn't someone else supposed to do that months ago?
the EPA can enlighten you better than i.I'm just saying that in this day and age most homeowners are looking for eco friendly cleaning contractors, and Ive found that safer cleaning methods are what customers in my area are looking for.
Hey I'm not trying to down any contractors,it just seems to make good sense.Ive been in the business for over 16 years myself, and tried em all.I'm just giving the public what they their looking for.
The EPA didn't come here and say anything,..if you can't back up what you're saying then don't say it. Don't say something and then say,.. "Well the EPA will enlighten you" Customers complaining is rare to most of the guys on here.
