If they are unstained and weathered, I would just clean. How can they argue with that?

What Kind of wood

where do i get the Sodium percarb and oxalic acid?  do i need to order online, from a chem distributor, or can i get it locally?

Anytime I overspray something I give my helper the "start the car" signal.

Oxy Clean is Sodium Precarbonate I believe. Use 1lb to one gallon water, use half that for the oxalic. Let the SP mix dwell for 15 minutes and keep it wet. We usually pressure wash wood at low pressure when using Sodium precarbonate, but the brush suggestion will work as well. Oxalic acid brightens the wood and neutralizes the sodium precarb, but is not necessary for a quick cleanup. Both these chems ahould be applied directly, not down streamed through a pressure washer. Neither of these chems should ever be aloud to mix with your Sodium Hypochlorite as they are incompatible and will create a foamy reaction or dangerous gas. They should not be mixed together either.

You may find the oxalic acid at Home Depot as well, or a local paint store.  It's usually in the paint department, and could be labeled as wood bleach.

 +1, or you could use some weak hydroxide. rarely include a bleach on wood. It can be added very weakly to the percarbonate or hydroxide as the secondary cleaner if there are green stains on the wood.

 Since percarbonate and hydroxide cost the same. Half stepping the stronger hydroxide would be a lil more cost effective.

Check this vid out. Some of this teak furniture was stained and some just weathered. They had a 2 month old deck too!




I didnt wash the deck but waited and caried the furniture back to the deck for the comparison pic. The freshly washed wood looks just as new as the new deck. After all the wood dried. Hydroxide was used on all the wood, not switching from percarb to hydroxide.

 Hydroxide works on everything except acrilic.

 I havent mentione oxalic acid, cause that a no brainer. You cant walk away from the wood with the tennin out. It doesnt look nattural. lol!!
